Title: Wind speedo clock forward

I have just put some white dials on my clocks, (Golf MK2 Ryder) but I had to get a speedo from a Golf MK2
with the two plugs that fit into clocks, because the speedo dial didn't match my dial face (Single plug type).

The speedo I now have, is 30K miles less than my original ones, but I want to put the milage foward to
the same milage as my original one, as I want the milage to look legit as from previous MOT's.

My plan is to wind the clock foward with a battery drill, but I don't know which direction to do it?

Looking at the back of the speedo, do I wind the clock foward in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction?

Would it not just be quicker to try turning it each way and see what happens???

I did that once before some years ago, with a motorbike speedo, but when I wound it backwards I heard a click and the digits never lined up properly after that. (A good indicator that the clocks have been messed with)

I don't fancy wrecking my MK2 speedo.

Your problem is that you're too honest :laugh: Think of the advantage when you come to sell it!

you can just swap the speedos over, unscrew the face from the white dial set & fit to your old speedo.  Other option is to clock it, which is easy to do once the face is off, will become obvious what to do ;)

Well I put the dial faces on, and may not bother changing the mileage. (No need to take the dial faces or needles off with the ones I bought.

I wired the Dial LED's to go on when I turn the lights on, but didn't use a live ignition wire as instructed by the little manual. I painted the needles flourescent red, and put 3x 4volt Ultraviolet LED's protected with a 470-Ohm resistor. I'm using one of the original bulb holders as the power source (modified it) and I might put anther 3 UV Leds in (by using the other bulb holder) to light the needles a bit better

Sorry about the blur in the night pics, I don't know how to avoid with my camera.
Also the colour of the blue isn't as pale in real life as what it has come out like in the pics.

It's a joy to see my dials at night now.

I bought the dial faces off someone called cromemanics on ebay £35.99 + £3.00 postage

They're a thin plastic dial cover that fit over/onto the original dials. They allready have LED's on them so it's just a matter of wiring one wire to an earth and one wire to a live. They also change colour to a pale green with a flick of a switch and the brightness can be adjusted via a potentiometer (both allready attatched to the dials with a relay)

But I had to go to a scrappy and get a speedo off another MK2 because the digits in the mile counter at the bottom didn't line up. (I knew that before I ordered them because I scaled a photo of my dial with the photo that he's got online, with AutoCAD.

The inner centre (Looks white) and outer ring (By the numbers) turns a pale green that is, and not the numbers. The numbers turn a little darker blue when the switch is flicked over.

Also notice that I had to add two new screw holes in the tacho cover because mine was also different.
