This has been going on for the last 6-8 months or so but when i start the car i get this sound from my starter motor for about a second, hard to describe this sound but its a bit like when you turn the key in the ignition the car starts but you keep turning the key, you get this wurring scrapping sound..........sounds like the starter is not disengaging straight away.....any ideas...?

The beest you can do is remove it and check it's not gunked up and moves freely .

Its a dicky solenoid. This is what shoots out the starter motor cog to engage with the flywheel.
It may be a case of taking off the motor and cleaning up the slider and a bit of WD40 etc.
Or it may well be that the solenoid is on its way out and will need replacing, which means a new motor as most dont come as seperates.

This sounds like what I've been experiencing over the last month or so. Did you relpace the motor/solenoid or find out what this is?

No not yet, gonna get it looked at when i take it for a service in the next month or so....ill let you know what i find out.
