From research ive found out that 16v PAS wont fit on my manual '92 1.8 golf driver. Im being offered an 8v PAS full setup. Problem is the seller didnt sound too clued up if it was a 8v or 16v and when he asked me what one i needed, he said 'yep its definately an 8V one'
Hmmmm. So when i go to see it, how can i tell if its 8V or 16V?
Also, anyone done the conversion from a manual to PAS? If so, any tips as it looks bloody hard to do according to Mr. Haynes?

the only difference between an 8v & 16v PAS setup is the rack itself. 16v rack is meant to be a tad heavier feel than 8v PAS setup
both racks are identical in size & dimensions

16v PAS racks are supposed to be quicker,m which is why they feel heavier, this is only what 'they' say, so no hard evidence to back it up. Gambit is correct, 16v PAS kits are identical to 8v kits, I have a 16v system fitted to my 2.0 8v ;)

Ok thanks guys.
What about the actual conversion? Any tips as i plan to do it myself.

not easy with the engine in situ, you'll have to drop the subframe a bit to get it on! Ideally take the en gine out to do it, gives more room to work, or support the engine and remove the subframe. Ideal oportunity to put new rear engine mounts in tho :)

i had a similar problem
hopes this helps
