I have the chance to buy this beauty:
some of you may know it - its been to a good few shows, has stacks of history etc....
do I leave the Mk2 behind, and go for it, or do I keep the valver after all the time effort and cash I spent on it??
what do I do????
-
depends how good a deal you can get...
-
its a private sale so px unlikley, just ahd a read up on them - it only has 136bhp!!! I'm losing power on it!!!
As another concern - anyone know if you can fit a baby seat in the back?? if its a deffo NO then that is that deal off, as I still need to carry my oither baby
-
Is it only a 16v? I thought it was a VR...would have been worth the hassle then.
I'd imagine you can get a baby seat in the back but access would probably be a bit tighter. or would it? :undecided:
-
i am sure that is a VR6 bonnet :undecided:
I would keep the golf to be honest mate, if it was a G60 or a VR6 then maybe.
Martinb has a rado and transports his to little 'uns in the back of his rado so yes, you can fit them in
-
I wouldn't want a VR or a G60! 2.0 16v is enough - couldn't afford the fuel on a vr or the super charger rebuilds for a G60!
the 2.0valver is chippable though in it??
-
not sure to be honest.
remember they are quite heavy cars so will not be as fast as a mark 2 16v golf.
does look like a tidy car though
-
I'm really tempted, how much do you think its worth??
its priced at £2995, I think thats a bit steep?
-
You might have problems with the baby seat, although it depends on the seat. Martinb's got a Carrado now and he's got a couple of kids, ask him ;)
-
If you're set on having the rado then you can tune them easily enough. Stick in a KR inlet cam, a decent exhaust system from the cat back and get it chipped. Should easily see the right side of 160bhp and a decent torque figure to go with that. Add a p+p head to the mix and you'd be nearer 170bhp and probably 150lb/ft
would be quicker than a mk2 then....unless that's had the same work!
-
I've been looking at Rado's,that seems a tiny bit overpriced...
watch out for the insurance on the 2.0 16v as i found it to be more than the G60.
I drove a 1.8 16v Rado and my 8v mk2 seemed to be alot faster, however it was lovely to drive and was lowered sp much it handled beautifully.
-
I've convinced myself against it!!!
I've put too much into my valver to dump it now!
Also the rada is too expensive and If I do go for one in the future it will be a G60 or VR6 - may was well go the whole hog eh!!
So I'm still going to be pestering everyone on here for the forseeable future

wise decision mate. especially as you say after pumping time and money into your mark 2.
i do fancy a rado myself but not yet, besides I cant afford to insure one.

how old are you?
I'm 19 ina few weeks and can insure every 'Rado cept the VR6.

I am 20 mate, 20 and a half to be precise
I havn't got any no claims bonus with me not having my own policy for longer than 6 months before.
I got a quote for a G60 that was £1700 ish taking into account me being 22 and having a years no claims.
I stuggled to get a decent quote for me mark 2 16v to be honest, have to insure it on 3000 miles a year and no commuting when i get it on the road and thats still going to be about £1200
