Title: 2.0 top end on 1.6 bottom end
Post by: mk2_singh on 10 January 2007, 21:51

i got a 1.6 run around on a weber carb and gti cam and straight through to backbox, sounds great!! and is much quicker than stock 1.6

next thing im thinking is using a 2.0 8v top end but i dnt no what parts i need for this conversion, also is it straight forward that i can do at home with tools and my basic level of mechanics?

The problem your going to encounter is the fact that the 2litre top end is fuel injected and that there was never a 2 litre carb engine. But what you could do is use the 2litre bottom end, as to what gains you would get im not really sure

2.0 top end will bolt up, but you wont be able to make it work with a carb becasue the inlet manifold is completly different, your old one wont bolt up.  Just get a 1.8 GTI head 'they' say it flows better than the 2.0 head anyway :)
As for the injector holes, either leave the injectors in or remove the inserts, and drop something suitably sized down the hole and thread the inserts back in.  I've heard 1p or 2p coins fit :)
