the exhaust fell of the Rado last night and left me car less, a week before payday, with no money to fix it!
Every cloud has a silver lining tho, my workmate Andy who has quite a fleet of nice dubs and a pimped merc (andwho's very nice mk2 i have also put up for sale on here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=52594.0 ) has lent me this too run around in until then:

Its sooo cool i dont think im gonna want to give it back!! It even has a sub mounted in an old skool leather suitcase in the boot!!
-
Cool, has he left the bike on the roof for ya???
-
lol yeah, he has even lowered the suspension on the bike too!
hmm was a little concered about that tho, dont want it gettin pinched of the roof while i am at work!
-
Dude, i want that bike! how much how much!!! tell him it fell off an was run over by a lorry!
failin that ask him where he got it.
An id have major issues givin it back, id be like noooooooooo!!! have to pry me off the door!
-

lol yeah good plan!! could sell it and use the funds to fix my car....
It better not get pinched now cos he will suspect me.....
The bike came from here:
http://www.ridelow.co.uk/
i think it was £200ish
-
That mk1 rocks. I'd take the bike off though because that wont last lng on there.
-
thats brill and very yummy!
-
Nice motor..and if your worried bout the bike getting nicked...I would speak to your insurer!!!!!!tell them it's a mod, i am sure you can swing it???

lol i am my insurer (well broker anyway)
hmm dunno if we can class a bike as a mod, lol will ask Andy who is lending me the car cos he is technically one of our managers!! (and the bloke who does most of our agreed values for those of you that have had one done with us!!)
Should be ok, the bike is chained to the roof rack and the roof rack bolted to the car! Its very secure at my house, its only while in the car park during the day that there is any concern but its well lit and usually plenty of people about!
-
That's  Don't think I'd want to be driving round with the bike on there all the time though :undecided:
-
I know, if it was mine i would probably not keep it on there all the time either, but Andy who owns its does have a daily drive Merc and a mk2 gti aswell so the mk1 is just a bit of a toy that he takes out at the weekend etc so it proably does not matter that much to him.
lol the bike is a bit "rat look" too now after being constantly left on there!
its only done about 63k! (the golf not the bike )
-
Nice mk1 that hope your insured  shall be calling you in a few weeks and probably end up speaking to Andy as well!
-
keep the bike on there in case the mark 1 breaks down
p.s martin, i found that insurance certificate for my old car, it was insured through ensign as well so they might be able to trace me on their system, so all that is left to do is go and see the car and decide if i want it.
-
uber  :afro:
Dinx
-
That car is cooooool as dude. I've been thinking for ages that I'd like to get myself Mk1 as a second car, and that's confirmed it. Will have to wait a while 'till funds are replenished though after my recent purchase. :embarassed:
-
drove it to work today, i really really dont wanna ever give it back!! I have never had such a laugh driving to work!! It has Dixie horns which are funny and its amusing watching people in the car behind trying to read the stickers that are now on the back (this car is not abandoned etc )
scared to go more than 50mph tho cos it was so windy this morning it felt like i was driving with a sail on the roof!
It turns more heads than any car i have ever owned!! I want a mk1!!
on the downside tho, i spoke to the garage that have the Rado at the mo and in addition to the knackered exhaust it needs a front engine mount, CV joint and a rear caliper is pretty much seized, gonna be expensive (even at the mates rates i get!)!
-
Martin - just get the garage to do the exhaust and cv joint. A rear caliper is easy enough to free up and the front engine mount is a piece of p!ss to replace - only need a trolley jack if you can get it under the front bumper.
-
Yeah i have told him to leave the caliper for now, it is a mate who runs the garage so he has quoted me:
exhaust centre box - £51.50 + a couple of quid for clamps/rubbers, he will fit it for free
CV Joint - £45.00 fitted
Engine mount £45.00 for the part, £15.00 labour
so its not as bad as i thought!
-

cool, keep me posted buddy!

Course im insured! bet i would get the book thrown at me if i got caught driving uninsured
Cool no prob, speak to ya soon!!
-
Sweet mk1. i wonder if anyone has ever made low profile white walls?
-
dunno mate, his white walls are DIY jobs with a bit of household white paint
-
looks sweet! shame the raddo is broken though
-
my 6yr old daughter is not to impressed with the mk1, when i dropped her off at school in it this morning she said "oh no daddy, now everyone is going to see me!"
She does not seem to mind being dropped off in a bright yellow Rado tho.....
-
she is young, she'l learn!
-
i like it

lol, no still cant open the drivers door from the outside and the horn dont work, thats the next job (hopefully be ready for its mot then!!)!

everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it aint my car so im not offended, there are some things i would change on the car however Andy who built it has just done it for a bit of fun (his other 2 cars are show worthy) and i think as a fun car its bang on, it seems to get nice comments and thumbs up from so many people ranging from Chavs to old people!

I still dont wanna give it back (been told the Rado will be ready on Monday) and it has actually converted my missus to liking mk1's!!! She has always liked all the other mk of golf but i have never been able to convince her on mk1s. She drove it last night and loved it, even saying that it drives much better than her mondeo!
hmmm maybe means a future old Skool project for me then.......
-
You've got some good friends mate!!!
Would love to be lent something like that next time my car breaks down!!!!

dont i know it, especially considering that since i have been using it the MOT has run out on his mk2 and his Merc has been playing up and refusing to start!!
-
you will have to take that bike off the roof for him then to get to work on

It is actually, a lot nicer than i expected! Still i picked my Rado back up yesterday and it was soooo nice to be back in that (especially as it feels like a different car now)!! leccy windows, PAS and i had always thought it was slow but seems well rapid after the mk1!
I still have not given the mk1 back yet  and have decided that although it is wicked and i do love it, i could never live with one as a daily drive!
-
what was it? a 1.5 driver?
-
1.5 GL (4speed), its actually pretty nippy, although would probably go a lot better without the bike......
-
my mate had a mark 1 1.3 4 speed for a first car, that was a nippy little thing. So i would imagine a 1.5 wouldnt be too shabby either, well with out that bike on the roof like as you say
-
Couldnt get used to the 4 speed box but my mate swears by it. He build a 1.4T mini with a 4 speed, rapid off the line but struggled at 50+mph.... not sure I could live with that. :D
- Ross
-
true, i felt a bit guilty whenever i took it over 50mph as it felt like i was thrashing it (and i was worried the bike might come off the roof!)
lost count of the amount of times i tried to change from 4th to 5th!!
-
I used to have a Polo 1L with a 4 speed box, it used to scream a bit when you got up to 70 but it made it from London to North Yorkshire and back for a weekend without problems. Even managed to get 80mph out of it, but that really was pushing it.
-
my 1.4 litre mk3 only has a 4 speed box. It took a shed load of getting used to but its perfect for an island where 35 is the maximum speed limit! Sayin that, i had it in the UK and used to do a fair bit of motorway stuf and at 80ish it was still pretty good.
-
finally had to give it back last night.....
-
Boo... did you not have her long enough to gain some kind of custody rights? Get her every second weekend :D

Get yourself a batman costume and stand on top of his house until he gives you the keys.
- Ross
disclaimer: if you stand on his roof in a batman costume and fall off... not my bad ;)
