Title: springs/shocks/coilovers??
Post by: rowlers on 09 January 2007, 21:23
i'm in a dilemma!

I'm fancying some stiffer spings/suspension for my valver... but I'm don't know which way to go.

Its lowered 80mm at the mo, but this is too low for me. 60mm would be ideal. I'm really tempted by the "cheapy coillies" on ebay, but I don't think I'll ever need adjustment once it set!

I can't afford eibach/koni, so what about other springs with my current "ebay" sport shocks? Eibach, Spax, gmax, apex, Pi, etc... what is best compromise between price performance?

it is feels just too wallowy round corners and want it stiffened up!

Please give me some help!!!

how much do you want to spend? look on german ebay - you can pick up a set of barely used fk's for about £250 delivered.

You may not envisage changing your ride height at the moment but who knows what the future holds, that is where coilovers come in handy. You can also have the nose of your car 15-20mm lower than rear which not only looks cool but makes the car feel more sure footed as well.

Patec coilovers are great!! as is the standard shox and springs, the toptouring kit.
Just tell em what drop you want,

Patec was created by an ex-director of Bilstein.

A mate has Spax shox & springs (35mm drop) in his mk1 golf gti trackcar.

Good stuff for the money.

I recently had supersport coilovers fitted, quite a firm ride, but very tight round the twisties! not to bad at £350 inc VAT. iv'e heard the FK's are slightly more comfortable for everday driving?

Think I've decided on a new set of springs!

Now then whats the best (apart from eibach, cos I can afford them!) to go with my current shortend dampers, there is loads of different makes, eg, apex, PI, Spax etc... wahts peoples opinions from experience if poss on the various makes of spring?

Spax are hard? etc....

cheers
