Title: Any good
Post by: Rideandy on 09 January 2007, 18:30
I have a 8v R reg and I am planning to mod up the engine over the next year, I know very little about engines and have learnt a great deal from the people on this site so far.
So I will get to the point.
I have seen these on Ebay alot, Can anyone tell be what they really do, will they as said help gain more bhp and how easy are they to fit and where the hell do they go?
Cheers

basically, from wat i get out of the description.... it increases the rate at which fuel is sent through the throttle body, the ecu would then (in theory) read there is more fuel going in, and increase the ammount of air added....

more fuel and more air = more bang for your buck = more power.

however, it does mean that you will burn more fuel therefore reducing MPH.

there is also the risk of running rich, which will f*ck up engine internals and your CAT.

have a google search for "FSE power boost valve" as its exactly the same thing, should give you more info.

advice: dont bother, u wont get anywhere near 15% increase, and run the risk of doing expensive damage.

Tanks again mase.
I thought the 15% was a bit high!
Will look into the fse power boost valve.

you really should ignore all those silly things and follow the proven ,tried and tested route.

Decent induction, decent exhaust and a re-map.

These cheap fleebay things are bangs waiting to happen lol. You've got to weigh it up......

£3-500 good cat back 'zorst

£50-150 good induction kit

£3-500 reputable re-map...... = £650-1150 but good quality safe power increases against a £50 chip from fleebay

*inserts chin stroking smillie here*

word..... (that means i agree!  )

and if u can stretch to it, adding a stainless exhaust manifold and a hotter cam before you get the re-map, for about 1.5k, u could have a really rapid mk3, even on an 8v that list could get you the good side of 150bhp.
