Title: Replacing starter motor along with solenoid

Just a quick question, i believe the problem for starting my car is the solenoid and the starter motor, so i'm sourcing a new one, does it matter what year the golf is, e.g is there a specific part i need, obviously theres gonna be a difference but how can i find out?
