Since winter began i have major problems starting it, i dont think it has anything to do with the cold weather, the starter motor will turn but it wont turn the engine, sounds like the pulley just screeches on the metal and it wont turn, it'll do this about twice, r.g ignition on and off twice and then it will start. Sometimes it'll start fine in the morning and other times after running it wont start after 5 mins of cooling. I've had the battery and alternator checked and they are both fine, there putting out more power than required so do you think my starter motor is naff, or the solenoid or both? Or which one would be best to replace first to see what the problem is, first thoughts was a tooth was missing but i dont think it can land on that tooth everytime i stop.

Caught fire, jeez i dont want that
Well the woman that had it before me only did town driving, never went any further than 5 miles on a run so a lot of things have worn, e.g clutch, think i imght need a new gearbox but the plus side was it had only done 65000 miles and the engine hadn't ran inporperly, at least not for a golf.
Solenoid it is then, trying to find one as i type.
