Title: Sub enclosure query???
Post by: gc350 on 07 January 2007, 02:16
Im after info to build an MDF wheel arch enclosure for my MK2 Golf.

Does any body have a sub enclosure that they could sketch and dimension.

I know you can buy them but i'm a cheap skate, and i know you can make them out of fiberglass, but i'm crap at that.

Any info greatfully recieved, thanks in advance.

nows your chance to get good at f/g'ing. theres a sticky on how to do it in here. i'll be doing mine later this month as soon as it warms up a bit (too cold for f/g to set atm). fibreglassing is easy peasy...not like its structural, an with enough layers it will be plenty strong.

I assume you mean out of wood. Unless you are like a pro carpenter and have some real good tools it will be very hard to make a good job of it, would a normal self made box not do you? ( if you really cant afford the £25 to buy one, which by the way will be well worth it!)

I did see the sticky but i don't want a fiberglass one, 1. cos i'm crap with the stuff, and 2. I can only do the work outside away from where i live, not the best thing if i need to leave the car open to dry.

indeed i do, i need to keep my boot space as i need to keep the boot space as a fully usable one. I know there is a company that make arch installs, and was hoping that someone may have one.

If i can find out the dimensions of the ones already in existance i can then make my own.

Sub enclosure size is totally dependant upon the driver you're using.  Most (reputable) sub manufacturers have the recommended enclosure volume listed on their website - so that's the best place to start.
