yes mate read that one, but i was hoping i could get away with not paying 35 quid from GSF for a new one, and maybe that some boffin on here had fixed it with some parts from maplin..................................

having swapped afew of these on several cars i'd say its easier to just buy a new one. i'm sure you could probably do it with cobbling parts together if you're good with that sort of thing. i personally suck when it comes to electrics so would rather pay.
pull your old one out and have a look at what its made up of and see if you can find a replacement component....?

You can pick blowers up on fleabay cheaply, and they're easy to swap over  - thats what I did when mine packed in on settings 1 and 2.... and eventually 3 as well!

Could be done easily with some fairly cheap ceramic resistors, but it's not worth the hassle.

the reason the resistors blow is because water gets into the motor causing it to tighten up

so if your replacing the resistor give the actual motor a good lube up!!

yep Gambit i did notice that my fan was covered in moisture, anyone know how the water is getting there, hopefully not from the matxrix

found a guy on ebay that makes the resistors up on ebay for mk3, but will also do them for mk2 aswell for £17.50.

Sod that £17.00+ for a few risistors mate listen go to a junk yard  rip one out of any golf MKII and pull the two contacts off and presto! I got these off a junk yard for £10.00  :wink:Yes blower included and tested on the premises.

If your a LHD the blower is no use as the fins are facing the wrong way so it sucks instead of blows LOL!

it comes in the hole under the scuttle where it sucks air through - usually a line of silicone round the seal will help prevent water leaking down through

My Caddy blower works only on full blast (no3) but on all settings 1, 2 and 3.
Is this the same problem?
cheers.

Well i would say 99% yes then.  The 1% is because i am not completely sure that a Caddy's internals are the same. Pretty sure they will be though.

tghe caddy internals are not the same, but they do have a resistor for the fan :)
To get to it, open the bonnet & remove the plastic scuttle cover, you'll see the fan & blower inlet.  Remove the 4 bolts holding the grill on, then unplug the resistor and remove the screws holding the bracket to the car.

At this point, its a good idea to spray the moving parts of the fan with some spray lube, silicone stuff works well.
