I thought the GTI came with all aluminium pedals, yet the silver GTI has the black rubber accelerator pedal ?  :undecided:

Oh dear yes I see that too, is it not just a cover?

I think the lighter cars will carry the ED30 makeover the better and best of the bunch being 3 doot white.

Wow looks better than a though especialy the rear.  Agree on the wheels though but at least is stands out as different.

the suspension seems high, have they got the transport chocks in still?

i want 3 door pics

yeah, white or that steel gray. think thats a lush colour!

Oh YES!

Red stitching everywhere!
Outside looks / bodykit
Wheels are OK
Golf Ball Gear Knob
Colour coded bits

Oh no...

That fabric on the seats - Any seat for that matter ain't for me  - never been a fan of tartan seats
That's no cover on the gas pedal - that IS the gas pedal!
It had better have the chocks in coz that front end is WAY to high!
(I think you will find the red thing hanging down from the rear view mirror is the warning for the chocks BTW)

Title: Re: GTI Edition 30 'real' pictures - come lookie!
Post by: Phantom on 06 January 2007, 20:05
Hmmm, not sure. Not sold on the red stitching on the interior. Those alloys smack of aftermarket and lose some of the 'class' of the 18" Monzas IMHO. Also, I have the DSG GTi and my accelerator is black rubber. ;)

I would be happy with the extra 30bhp, tho - the rest you can keep. :)

yeah they have still got the suspension blocks in. They had only rolled out the transporter that day.

i want 3 door pics

What do you think the red one is?

The wheels will look much better with the centre caps on (these were in a bag in the boot along with accelerator pedal, mats, and other bits) and when the suspension drops!

I'm sure its very nice, very quick, very comfy, very safe. very quiet, very red, very expensive, very rare, very etc etc.
I still prefer the Mk2 though !!

Excellent pictures Turbobatch. The reflex silver looks so good, especially from behind.

I think that the flash has highlighted the red stitching even more in the pic. Unless you are thinking it makes it look like the wheel of a 1986 MG Metro...................Nooooooooo!
Title: Re: GTI Edition 30 'real' pictures - come lookie!
Post by: Neaty on 07 January 2007, 01:38
i personally think that interior is superb, love everything about it, especially the seats

prefer the silver one, white would look great i think.

As for the wheels, not convinced. I like them as these are a wheel that I want to get on my (imagionary) mark 4 when i get one. But they just arent nice enough for a limited edition GTI
Title: Re: GTI Edition 30 'real' pictures - come lookie!
Post by: teebee on 07 January 2007, 10:32
Agreed.
The wheels look very ordinary indeed, not a patch on the Monzas.
I'm with Phantom - yes to the 30bhp, but I'd pass on everything else.

Roll on the black one's!

Have to say that i seriously hope the blocks are in as it looks like a 4x4 at that height!

Still sure that the lower section of the valance needs to be black like the R32.

Still happy with the 3 door - 5 door looks well ordinary!

Good potential!

Post by: The Doc on 07 January 2007, 11:46
I have the DSG GTi and my accelerator is black rubber. ;)
P~

Tis a bit naughty - they were metal in both my R32's - I'm sure I've seen non-racing metal DSG gas pedals - I'll look - In the mean time...

Damn - seems I have been rubbered! :D

Wonder if they were an optional extra that some dealers put on as a matter of course?

What i can't work out is if a car has blocks in it for transportation is this not likely to cause more damge than one that doesn't? Can anyone shed some light that would dispute simple physics?
Title: Re: GTI Edition 30 'real' pictures - come lookie!

The blocks are there to raise the suspension to help the car get on and off transpoters / trains / boats etc en route!

My observations from those pics are that wheels look too small for the car!  Also what's happened to the leather bolster parts on the seat?  It looks to be sagging already.

Those wheels really are horrible, they look like some cheap knock offs and not factory spec for a limted edition.  Give me Monza's any day of the week.

I actually don't think those wheels look to bad on a black car - they would have been my choice if i opted for black - but i didn't!
Whehey though - finally some decent picks of a 3 door - looks nice - but.......... (there always is!)

It still looks as if it is sitting too high - even higher than a normal GTI perhaps??
This will be common with the normal GTI but i think i will have to loose that middle rear head restraint - who glued that on??
Nice leather door cards but some one forgot that red stitching is the order of the day.

Picky stuff i know but i'm still darn looking forward to it - its a bloody good looking car! (but not in red with 5 doors  - who bought that one?)

Very nice BMX and the cars not bad as well! opps better be careful with what I say as we live in the same region!

The pictures are great. Nice to see one in showroom condition. The black car looks very well indead. The interior looks better than I thought it would.
Now to the wheels...........They look good but, I think they would have looked better in a lighter silver.

The Monza IIs are the most perfect wheel for the GTi and VW got it spot on with those. So its very hard to improve on them. If they had done an all steel grey Monza wheel for the Edition 30 everyone would would say that there was not different enough .  Also everybody has got used to seeing the GTI on Monzas for the last few years.

They don't get it right all the time. Look at the 25th Anni excellent wheels, not too hot on the body mods. ( ready for the flaming )

Nice pics there BMX.  My dealer also has a demo in the showroom.  I was hoping to avoid going in the showroom to have a look, so that the first ed 30 i'd lay my eyes on would be my own car - just to add to the surprise/excitement - but i can't resist (its your fault bmx!) - will have to have a look tomorrow!  Can't really go by these pics - have to see one in the flesh, although the cars look pretty awesome (esp the black one!)

Found some more pics of a candy white one with black monzas; finally figured out how to post pics on the thread :nerd:

Quick lowering job (I'm sure they must have the shipping spacers in, or the suspension has yet to settle) and a subtle darkened rear diffuser

I'm glad we opted for black in the end also, looks nice and should look even better with xennons.

Wheel thing is a mystery to me as everyone says BBS CH's are the choice to go for wheels other than monza's so why do they get slated now?????

My only crit is that they really should have been 19's, with more options ticked as standard.

Oh well still looking forward to getting ours.

Good choice BMX on the mrs front too.

OK Guys - seen the Black ED30 in Gilbert Lawton today (Cheshire).
In Black it looks great (even the wheels do it for me).

I have had the current MK5 GTI nearly two years and am not disappointed with the way the new one looks.
Now then, I am nontechnical but I had the bonnet up and wow - all sorts of new big pipes at the front of the engine leading to what I think is the new Turbo (looks like it came off a Euro Fighter  ) - looks impressive.
Couldn't start the engine (not allowed indoors but I can hear the growl already).

Two disappointments (very minor) - Red edged Mats are absolutely Naff
And those penny pinching VW Folks have taken away the Aluminum Astray cover and replaced with black plastic (why do they do this stuff) .

Anyone know if you can get the Aluminum cover elsewhere - it really sets the the center consol/arm rest thingy off ????
Otherwise - looks the business.  I have full leather currently and the new seats look great.

Wish Jan and Feb would end quicker

Has anyone fitted the Ali Ashtray Cover - is it easy (would need to be for me)

Also - these are the Mats to get for the ED30

Bit pricey but would do the business (I can fit these  laugh Just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes i bought a brushed aluminium lid off ebay & its relativley simple to fit :

1. first remove gearknob gator & lift up out of harms way.

2. remove 2 torx screws either side of ashtray.

3. lift out & remove power connections to cigarette lighter, 'esp' & tyre pressure 'set' buttons, on the rear underside of the lid there are two plastic tabs , gentley prise off, then unhook upwards.

4. refit new lid , front edge first (there are 2 lips) then clip into position the rear two tabs.

5. screw down and reclip gearknob gaitor.

i agree looks so much better than the standard black one.

hope this helps.

Havn't the black monza's got a silver lip on the real ones?

They just look like painted normal ones, which is bad

Just seen a red Edition 30 drive through the village. It was in T Red and it looked very well indeed. Very good infact. ]

So I called the nearest stealer to see if they have a demo car. They have "but the the brand manager  in his wisdom has taken it home for the weekend." said the salesman

I saw the demo model at my local dealers today and i have to say, look completely different when seen in flesh.  This car was a red 3dr.  The tweeks to the outside look very subtle when compared to the normal gti, it doesn't seem ott, but still looks better and more aggressive than the normal gti imo (which i thought wasn't possible!). Oppostie the ed 30, there was a normal gti in red also, and when comparing the front end, it seemed that something (if anything) was lacking in the normal gti, which is made up for by the ed 30, although the normal gti still did look mean - again differences are very subtle, but the tweeks are spot on, not too ott.  However, i still feel the wheels don't do the car justice.  Even if they kept the silver monzas on, the car would look spot on - there is no character in the pescara alloys as there is in the 18" monzas.  And the interior - again, changes are subtle but it felt much more different to the normal gti, in a good way.  Red stitching isn't as prominent as in the first photos in this thread, and doesn't at all look ott.  Tartan cloth with leather looks the biz!

One other thing - i don't know if i'm wrong, but the rear brakes (at least) looked bigger than the ones on the normal gti - maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me, because of the realisation of what i've signed for and the increased excitement and impatience for that one of a kind thursday in March - 46 days (which is tooo long!) to go and counting
