Title: 2E on a Mk1 1.8 head?
Post by: Mk2Kezza on 04 January 2007, 16:18
Right, I know its possible to mate a 2E or similar lump onto a PB head with few obsticles, but is it possible to mate a 2E etc, to a MK1 1.8 head?
I ask as the rings have gone and its either strip and replace rings, bearings etc, or pop in a diff bottom end. The car is a 1.8 Y plate GTi.
Has anyone done this and how well does the combination work? Ariflow, MPG, power etc. Any problems with braking because of the extra weight?

Cheers in advance.

Yep it will bolt on no problem.
Only issue is the dizzy, the 2e dizzy is no good for the carbs or K-Jet as its electrical advance, and the k-jet & carb cars have vacuum advance.  The 2e dizzy is bigger than the old dizzy as well, so you need to find an adaptor ring, then swap the gear off the 2e dizzy onto your old one.  TSR used to sell the adaptors, but they've since gone out of business.
The 2e block also has a breather on the front, just block this off.

Ahh OK RJ, I was hoping they would mate up!
I read somewhere on here that TSR are trading again, any idea if this is right or not? Otherwise, any idea where I could get an adaptor ring?
Also, when you said swap the gear over, what did you mean exactly - sorry fro being an numpty.

I've heard this also, but trading under a different name?
By swapping the gear I mean removing the gear off the bottom of the 2e dizzy, and fitting to your K-jet dizzy :)
The other option is apparently you can get a 16v ECU & loom, then you can use the 2e dizzy.  No idea if this is true or not, but I can't see why it wouldn't work!
