8v aerial on wing...16v aerial on roof

16v has an inlet manifold that say DOHC. (doube overhead cam)

Don't tell us you bought a GTI without knowing whether it was an 8v or 16v ?!!!

As said, just open the bonnet and look at the top of the engine, does it have a large 4 pipe manifold that says DOHC, if so, it's a 16v.
Like this 16v:

usual position was on the wng on the 8v's, but many many owners bunged a 16v jobby on cause they look less g@y..... im not 100% but maybe the late run out jobbies had a 16v ariel on too??

little bit of controversy early in the year...

no offence taken at all mate, but im interested as to why u think that... is it purely a performance thing? or just a general aura of the mk2 that makes it the 'real' gti?

A real 16v's instruments on the dash are different too: speedo goes up to 160mph as opposed to 120mph. And redline comes in at 7000rpm, as opposed to 6000. ( i think )

my mk2 8v says 160 mph on the speedo. is that a runout thing?

i'm not sure? all the 8v's i've seen have speedo's showing a max speed of 120mph.
but i don't know if there was a change over at any point. Anyone know the answer to this one?

the 8v's had 140mph speedo's at some point, I think the 16v's may have done too ? all the 16v's I can think of have 160mph though, including mine  so I'm not sure  :undecided:

Revs go to 7000rpm on an 8v and 8000rpm on 16v :nerd:
