Title: mk1/mk1 cab
Post by: [han] on 02 January 2007, 14:40
what similarities are there between the two? i sound thick, but do mk1 interiors fit?

on the interior i seem to be missing the push (pull) handles to right / left of the seats for removal.. how do i remove it without the catches? the bottom of the rear bench is not a problem as its not fastened down!

on early cabbies up to about 83, the front seats are the same as a tintop MK1.  After that the seats are the same as a MK2 golf :)

As for the rear seats, they are completly different to MK1 tintop seats due to a strengthening cross member just behind the seats.

To fold em you have to open the tailgate and pull the knob there out, then go inside and find the rubber strap next to the rear seat, usually on the passenger side.  Pull this forward and the rear bench should fold down.

well either MK1 or MK2 seats will fit, the only difference is the side the forward/back handle is on.  If you get the wrong type the only problem will be that you'll have to pull the pin across to move the seats, and since you dont do that very often its not a big deal.  AFAIK the seat bases for MK1 & MK2 seats are interchangable anyway, so in theory you should be able to swap the frames of your old seats onto whatever set you buy if they arn't the right type.

Swaping the frames is dead easy :)
