Title: GOLF MK4 1.8T (AGU) AIR BOX SENSOR (not MAF)
Post by: samy_1800_turbo on 29 December 2006, 21:33
i was looking at performance air filters for my golf and then relised on the AGU engine it has a sensor on the box which I would have to get rid of to make room for the induction kit. I belive the sensor is a  IGNITION AMPLIFIER MODULE. do i still need this sensor or can i just unplaug it and remove the sensor and airbox. If any one has fitted an induction kit to the Turbo MK4 golf id like to hear from you 2 see wot you did thank you Sam.

Hi mate,
ive recently fitted a carbonio cai to my 1.8 t and i did need to use the ignition amplifier module. I removed it from the airbox and mounted it in the engine bay.In the instructions for the cai it said remove the plugs from the module and zip tie them out the way because you wont need them,so i did that!!! Then the car didn't start. So yea i think you will find you will need that module mate. I must say after fitting the cai about 10 days ago my MAF sensor has now started playing up.

as the man says, without the ignition amp the car wont even start.

fisher - im on my 2nd MAF now and when it started playing up again a little carb cleaner did the trick. (remove the maf first though, dont spray it into the turbo  )

Rather dig up an old thread than start a new topic. I've got my BMC CDA ready to install.

Any guides on what to do with the ignition amplifier? Any help would be much apprechiated since the cars airbox and the cda are in pieces waiting to find out what to do next!

It's simple, but hard to explain, but what I did, was take the IAM off the airbox (2 x 7mm headed bolts - screw the loose bolts back into the OEM airbox so you don't lose them), then unplug ONE of the connectors on the IAM, then put the loose connector/cable through the back of some other wires (or that plastic ducting - I can't remember which I used, now) & then re-plug the connector back in.  The IAM now holds itself out of the way through it's own cables, if you see what i mean?? :afro:
