Hello,
I filled up with Optimax last night, I've only drove about 30 miles...the car feels smoother, more responsive and MPG is up about 2,3 (I sound like an advert!).
Has anyone else felt differences, and will it get better after a few tanks full?
-
should do - I never put anything else in my GTi ...
Seeing as the car has a knock sensor it can differentiate between the RON ratings of the fuel and behave accordingly.
Also the fuel has the usual cleaning additives most performance fuels have so it'll have keep your insides clean!
Most importantly it's the only fuel for sale in the UK with a 98RON which is what VW state you should run your GTI on !
-
i have started to run my car on optimax now, and it does improve the responsivness, not checked it for mpg yet, but everyone i have spoken to about optimax ith has told me that they have noticed there mpg imporving once they have been using it for a while.

Put 10 tanks in now and got 44.5 mpg on way home from newark at 80 so I'm chuft wi it :)

By the way the kenwood sticker and exhaust tip were a joke...I was taking the pi$$! ::)
Optimax is only available at Shell, but others do super unleaded (which is not quite as good, but better than normal).
-
LOL, yeah I guessed you meant that as a joke :)
Might hang on til I need service bits.....car washing stuff...

i have an 86 8v and i use to use super unleaded 97ron, never could get the timin right but now with optimax (98ron), spot on now, its the nuts!
-
I've always used optimax in my MKII 8v (with this engine), it burns really clean I had the head off abput 6 months ago and there was very little carbon build up, top stuff ;D
-
This little topic of conversation regularly rears its head. I think the general feeling is that optimax works far better than regular or super, with more MPG and better performance. I have run mine on nothing but optimax (except for 2 tankfuls) for the past 8000 miles, and get over 40 MPG if steady, and 35-37 when driving hard. Its far quicker from the blocks too. It does involve planning fuel stops upto a week in advance sometimes, but its worth every penny.
-
My tickover revs were a bit blippy.
Put Optimax in on monday, sorted the blip, now running smooth.
It feels a better on accelarating.
Just have to wait to see the MPG
-
I use optimax in all my cars (except for the MK4 diesel ;)) and I think its well worth the extra. I have three Shell garages near my house and two on the way to work :)
-
I had a full tank of unleaded (normal stuff) last week, when i read about the optimax, i was gunning it around to use up the petol, so that i could put in the optimax.
It even does this biz in my girlfriends golf auto
8)

i put optimax in my 2.1 mk1 and it still only does 30mpt quick though
mpt = miles per tank!!!!
please would some tell my bird that putting crap fuel in it because its cheaper is not acceptable........
