my wife was driving our gti ,when she lost a bit of power while driving up to a junction, when she pulled away the car burst into flames. the results are heartbreaking, after getting car back to dealer some bods from vwuk have sent the coil pack away for examination, anyone know if this has happened before?

thats a shocking story and hope this was a one off, i had a pug 307 that had numous fire risks with starter motors jamming on the flywheel and setting alight. Are vw replacing the car for you free of charge?

dont know whats gunna happen next ,they need to get the results from coil pack, and it needs to be conclusive, they are worried about having to recall.

Hi newbie here!
Had my GTi 05reg 48k miles for less than a week and she set fire too!
Replacement coil pack fitted and part sent back to VW. Be interested to know how old you car was before this happened & how many miles you'd done. Anyone else had this problem?!

hi,soz for delay in reply but my computer went pop,the car was also 05,and had done 20k,how did u get compensated?????
-
Cheers for replying jer.
New coil pack fitted now, thankfully the damage was limited to the coil itself and the plastic covers.
When idling it seems to stutter ever so slightly, so slight that it does not register on the rev counter, you can just faintly hear it & feel it through the steering wheel and pedals. Is this the norm? Any advice would be much appreciated.
As for compensation, I got to drive a 1.4 S for a week. What more could you possibly ask for?!
