Title: is it true about the coils burning out

sorry if this has already been coverd but i am quite new.

i herd that 1.8t's up have had problems with there coils burning out. if this is true when does it happen , how many miles and how much does it cost to replace

the coil packs (1 ontop of each spark plug) often fail, this will result in a bad misfire and really rough engine running!!!, if they fail and the car is under warrenty get em sorted on that, if not id check prices with vw

It happened to me before christmas. I was luckly - warranty job, but get them to replace all of the coils as you may find the others go within a few weeks.
 
My Golf has only done 18000, but the dealer said it is likely to happen in cold weather and only on 1.8t engines. My car is only 2 years old 51 plate.
 
Yes the engine does go very very shaky, best to get to a dealer or tow into them to avoid anymore damage.

hasnt happend to mine as mine hasnt got individual coil packs as its a 20v non turbo model!! ;D so no coil probs for me!! :P
