Title: 2.0i GTi 8v doesnt want to accelerate??
Post by: [han] on 26 December 2006, 22:39

Hi recentley bought a mk3 gti, great car really tidy and with a years ticket.

But ive just started to have a problem every now and then.

The car will free-rev fine and accelerate really well, then ill be driving along. Pull up to a junction or lights, then when i go to accelerate theres nothing there. The car moves just very slowly and very restricted.

The car does move, however sometimes a loud pop or crack can be heard which to me sounds like its misfiring?

Im not sure if this is a common problem but im starting to get a little worried now as its startly to do it more frequently now.

Cheers for the help peepes, JJ.

Have you serviced it yet?
Start by cleaning out the throttle body, and the throttle sensor if it has one.

What year is it, the later ones had a crank sensor so it could be that, and if the rev counter also goes nuts now & again, thats a sign the hall sender is about to die.

The coils are a weak point on these cars, so worth looking at that too.
