Title: question for someone else....
Post by: Blue MK2 on 18 January 2004, 23:07
will a MK2 16v head fit on a 1999 2.0 8v beetle?

Whats best way to convert the beetle into a 16v?

Thanx in advance

i wouldnt of thought so not as the head would be for 1.8 where as the beetle is 2.0.

all the fueling would be way off.....and the compression ratio would be wrong!
you'd have more chance with a head from a 2.0 16v from mk 3 golf...

a hell of alot of work for not much gain...... :-\

better dropping a 1.8 turbo in there....

yeah i told him a mk3 16v head would probably be better. :-\

Anyone else know how to convert the 2.0 8v new beetle into a 16v?

You are talking a lot of work :o, have to change the oil pump, oil pump drive, aux drive shaft, all the belt pulleys and the dist blanking cap from a 2litre 16v. Pistons will be wrong, resulting in a very low compression (good for boost, check the parts for sale ;))
I'm sure I have missed loads of other things, can be done but better just to get a whole engine and drop it in.  Steve.
