should put this in the ''how to'' guide

Sounds like the throttle cable is too tight, the wiring to your throttle switches has snapped, or the switch itself isn't clicking when the throttle is closed. Have a read of my MK2 digifant tuneup guide ;)

Try your idle control valve. Remove it and clean with carb cleaner, even better if replaced £5 from vw. Use cotton buds to clean where the valve sits.( Also with carb cleaner)
Worked a treat on mine.

£5 for an idle control valve from VW? Quite sure about that sir?

Worth trying the classic blue temp sensor replacement?

blue thats the wide open throttle switch, the idle switch is underneath :)

id go with replace isv on this one johnnys not often wrong but i had problems where at idle it would jump upto about 2000 rpm and sit there for no reason then slowly go back down on its own.

Hey Blue,
The problem I saw with the ISV was cold runnig issues, ie revs kept cuting out till she got hot. Although my mech said if it sticks in the cold position she might idle cold well but wouldn't idle when hot!
good luck
