I got no heating in my car. I've just changed the thermostat, but still have no heating in the car. all the pipes seem to warm up ok, no heating in the interior of the car.
what it be?? hopefully its not the heater matrix??

Search.
There must be a post every day on the subject !
-
use the search there is alot of information on this site about having no heat.
I don't have heaters, but just flushed coolant and replaced with new stuff and it seems a bit better (though may be imaginig it)
It could be:
lack of coolant
bypass valve buggered
heater matrix broke
(list thanks to RubJonny)
I'd suggest removing the bypass valve and replacing it or bypassing it (lots of information on here bout that too) and see where you are from there.

if your carpet is wet then your matrix has probably blown.
bypass valves are for girls. replace those with some central heating pipe
check for leaks in the cooling system. You can get air in the system with leaks
does take a while to bleed the system
-
After taking mine out earlier,it's definitely more heat in the sytem. However not as hot as i'd like but the car doesn't have a stat so it won't get warm that quick. So that may explain that.
I suggest flushing the coolant system and fill with new coolant. May improve the situation and then go from there...

well without the blower on the car has a faint heat coming through the vents (I take it this is engine heat) but as some as you put the blowers on it blows out cold air.
very confusin

That seems a tad similar to mine now....before hand there was no heat at all. Could be you bypass valve, though i'm no expert just going out what people here have said...i'm going to do mine early January, along with new header tank + cap,but that's a whole
other story.

I did the by pass mod on mine, best thing i ever did!
-
think I might Have to try that... cant take having no heat, its cold outside
-
my 16v have the same problem.where is that bypass valve????
a photo please!
-
look near the bulk head, its this metal thing thats got a small cylinder and a big one and water pipes attached to it.
Hope that helps!
-
I'm having that problem too, even if it is the heater matrix its not a hard job AT ALL, you dont have to take the dash out. So should be cheap enough, mines getting done next week, only £34 for the matrix from andrew page. :nerd:
-
just purchased a new bypass vavle, gonna fit it and see if that helps
-
Flushed my matrix todaya nd replaced the valve and it pretty uch didnt do sweet FA gives me soem ehat but nothing to write home aobut, and at least the lukewarm stays now  balls..
after much deliberation and pushing by rubjonny, stories of nobody ever knowing of thei amtrix to die witht his, many mk2s not ahving it done etc, it seems fair enough jsut t chenge the hoses and elminate the valve, considering one end of the metal valve on mine is chipped out by a huge chunk to
-
changed the bypass vavle, and still not heat. I think I need to change the expansion tank cap, because I haven't got any pressure in the tank.
so plan is tommorrow
1. purchase cap
2. bled of the system see if this helps
-
have the engine got to be runing to have hot air?
-
ehy??
-
you arent going to warm up the water, or have it moving witohut a running engine, aty least not on a 1.3 cause the waterpump is driven by the cambelt.
thats why you have the initial bit of cold air till it all warms up then you get warm bowers of course..
1 Lp, make sure you get the blue cap from VW i chagned mine from a blackone after being advised, was the best thing I did, my old one was rusted solid so the little plate didnt even move..
-
thanks i was worried for a min.
-
No problem mate. If you come to change the cambelt I recommend cahnging the pump at the same time as it's the tensioner for one.. Mine was so badly rusted in it took 6 guys trying many different ways to get it out, ending up on a lad getitng a big bar to smash it out.. even the O Ring had rusted over.. it's on my project page
Just a little tip if you come to it anyrate

might sound silly but make sure the valves are the right way round, if u can look at them on car with working heating. there are 2 valves ie 1 in and 1 out and there are arrows on them but for the life of me i cant remember which way round they go. no cap shouldnt matter as u need it off till all the airs out.
