i have bought a mk4 gti golf and the GTI badge has a RED red I when some GTI's dont wot does the red i mean. thank you sam
-
normally it means its the 1.8T the solid silver GTI badges normally indicate its either the 2.0 Petrol, GT TDI 150 or anniversary (either 1.8T or TDI150PD)
not 100% if the anniversaries both had full silver
-
It means very little in terms of engine size because the badges ended up on all the different versions. The red I could mean it was an Anniversary but the car could also be a 2.0 engine, or a 1.8 20v non-turbo or a 1.8T.

the red i was supposed to be for the turbo versions, but apparently when the cars were delivered it was up to the dealer to fix the badges on. they stuck on whichever badge was at hand at the time, so all sorts have all sorts of badges. there was also a rumour that they changed back to all silver badges because the cars with red 1's were getting stolen more often. whether thats true or not i dont know!

thats the exact explanation i got from a mate who works for VW too (VWmaindealer on here but he hasnt been on for a few weeks)!
I thought it was the turbo's too hence why the "i" on the back of my old mk2 turbo was red!
-
also heard the one about dealers putting on whatever they had and then all silver in the end.
before that I was told:
all silver GTI: non turbo 2.0
red GTI: 1.8T 150bhp
all red GTI: 1.8T 180bhp/anniversary

The real meaning of the RED I is Interplanetary protection service. When you go to sleep your car goes out to fight crime on other planets but dont be alarmed it will be back before breakfast with many a crime solved!!!
-
and not a drop of fuel used ?
-
well the interplanetary protection service are government funded so the fuel is covered they also employ a clocking service so the odometer doesnt read different to the night b4!
-
is it just the Mk4 that helps ?
-
The mk4 and mk3s work together and twos and ones do the same the mk5 abstains as its a scientologist and that sort of thing is against its religion!
