Got a fuel leak. Lost 1/4 tank over 1 mile! Checked it and it was leaking on to the hot parts Eeeeeek.
All ok though but can't drive it.

Oh bl00dy hell. 1/4 tank over a mile is pretty well fooked Martz. Do you know if yoy can get Rallye fuel tanks still ? My cab needed one for it's last MOT and I got it from ECP. No doubt that will be my next problem too.

Its not the tank, it leaking from the top of the engine on to the manifold area! I did do a slight poo when what appeared to be steam sizzled up in to the atmosphear! That was a scary moment.

Scarey ! I bet it was. When I read posts like this I really should get myself a fire extinguisher.
-
Most definitely! They are quite cheap from Halfords!

Martz sorry to hear your Rallye troubles mate, was it the fuel lines that split or came off?
I've had a few problems myself. My heater system/blower packed up proberly due to sludge. The car has cost me a small forune already, but I'm about 80% there for show room condition. The biggest problem I've got is the sills the passenger side needs sorting by January the respray is not cheap!
Took the car down to G-werks Darren is a cool guy he defo knows his stuff around G60's and Rallyes.
He gave the engine a clean bill of health, but charger will need seeing to after new year. The bearings sounded like they needed re-greasing, boost was good though.
I've spent the last week updating the electrics and sorting the dash lights out. I found the electrics on the Rallye the most problem some.
Next on the list is uprated loom for the lights as they are piss poor!
Paul hows yours mate, hope your having better luck?

Blimey martz that was a close one!

sounds way too close!

Scary when that happens, i had a similar situation on my old mk2 Turbo. I stopped on the way home from work and filled up, by the time i got home i had used half a tank!! I only noticed when i reversed onto the drive and saw a river of fluid on the floor! It was one of the fuel pipes that went to the extra injectors had perished and split and was spraying fuel over the engine (and rather hot turbo!!), at least it was a cheap and easy fix!!
Very scary, needless to say i now carry a fire extinguisher!!

I would guess it will be the return pipe off the injector rail, check that the screw which holds that end of the rail to the bracket isn't missing or loose as that can cause the pipe to work loose. Could also be the feed to the rail both are known to be a problem.
Gibby, the fuel tank is plastic mate.

oops, could of been another fielder episode
-
 I had the same problem on my rallye and it was doing the exsact same thing but not as extreme as 1/4 tankin such a short distance. it was a small fuel feed pipe i think it was a 7" pipe approx 10"long but inbetween the cam cover and the inlet manafold. hope this helps

happens to me. scarey stuff
You can tell if its leaking because you get a petrol smell through the vents

Yep, it does smell a bit.
Found the problem. One of the main fuel pipes was almost off due to a bodged jubilee clip (wrong size forced on and not clamping. Will replace that pipe with braided I think and get the right sized clips!
