had the immob removed this week as i lost the key fob for it and since then the car is running a bit crap. with the ignition on and engine not running the car is making a ticking noise under the bonnet almost like the indicators are on. any ideas? im worried the auto electrician may have fecked something up messing with the wires. he did hot wire it after all.

sounds like the ISV valve to me :) they make a noise when you turn the ignition on , helps with starting. have a listen to it , its the round thing on top of the rocker cover on 8v's not sure where it is on 16v , similar place i think
-
will check that, any other suggestions?
-
No 'fraid not mate. From what i have seen you know the basic's. Something trying to arm? - fuel pump/isv is about it before you turn it on.
-
yep thought it was the pump at first but its not.. im sure the electrician has naffed something. it runs really bad now. could even have fried the ecu and it may be the injectors pulsing?
-
if the ecu was fried the engine wouldnt run at all, get the bonnet up and have a good listen till you find the source of the noise!
-
right the ticking is that isv thing but it only does it sometimes. would a faulty one cause my car to splutter?
-
worth trying another to rule it out :)
-
right thanks mr rubber. i will get down the breakers later on.
-
right none at my local breakers. are they on all gti's? or do i need a digifant 8v isv for my car?
-
MK3 2.0 8v ones work, but 16v ones wont :)
-
thanks man, this site would be sh!t without you!

It could be the ISV control box behind the dash has been knocked when he removed the alarm??
Or it could be that he hasn't connected something back together properly. Take it back and get him to check it if it was fine before and only started happening afterwards he should fix it.
