Title: VR6 fuel consumption??
Post by: ronnie'C' on 20 December 2006, 17:41
Hello all. My wife has owned her mk3 VR6 since April this year and has just started complaining about the mileage that she gets in it. She gets about 250-300 miles to a full tank. Is this normal or should I be looking to get the car fixed, if so what suggestions to you all have to what the problem could be ( if at all there is one)?

Many thanks, Ronnie

That is normal for a VR6, actually, it's very good. Mine used to get about 200-220 miles especially during heavy traffic

I get around 30-37 mpg out of mine average. I once got 40.1mpg  but it can go down to around 25mpg if it gets a booting!

FFS, i struggle to get 200 miles out of a full tank with my 2.0 AGG  I live in a total speed bump hell zone and have to almost stop and accelerate every 100 yards cos of the speed bumps until i get onto the main roads  The speed bumps have not saved any lifes at all(the stats show no diff since they have been installed)and the amount of hassle they cause to ambulances and buses is untold!!  Also, the extra amount of fuel they cause every driver to use is astronomical!!! Just look at my fuel figures above   How can that be good for the environment???

Sorry for the rant,

Stu

Thanks for the replies everyone. She is a bit more happier now. I think she is just annoyed that we used to own a mk4 diesel which she was getting about 450 miles out of a tank. Many thanks again all,

I doubt very much that you get 30-37 average out of a VR.

Unless you drive around like a granny!

I've got a 16v and i usually average 31-35 over a lot of miles, mixture of town/single carriageway/motorway, highest i've seen is 43 think on a long run.

I usually get 300-330 out of a tank so 250-300's not bad for a VR6.

Tank on mine is 50 litres so presumably it's the same on a VR.

I get around 200 miles to a tank of Opti

There is no way i have seen 30 mpg let alone 37

I get around 19,20 around town, if im really carefull and drive like a granny I see just about 28 mpg, but thats only ever happend once!!!

erm - I would think it was obvious that a 2.8 V6 petrol would never even get CLOSE to the MPG from a diesel?????

Since I've owned the car, I've got an average of 28.4mpg (on MFA-2) - normally on the motorway I get 30-34 on the commute... What made a huge difference was tyre pressures - the VR requires 2.4 & 2.2 bar in them (or was it 2.6 & 2.4 bar?)
