We both wanted to get a VR6.
Trade in our 8v GTI.
Are their any power differences between the 16v and vr6, Im not sure on these differences.
What would you go for, I have around 6500ukp.
thx
Just found other post about same .q
-
I have had both and would prefer a VR6 for the power and feel. The only thing to have is air con as the VR gets very warm and will grill your feet in summer :o
-
wowsers sorry to gatecrash :P
if you're after a VR6 expand your budget a wee bit and you could have a '97 Highline with under 40,000 miles and 1 owner ;D
Deffo go for VR6 regardless
-
Had a VR6. Overrated IMO. Should have been faster with a 2.8l engine.
I test drove a 16v and would get one over the VR6 becuase its cheaper to run and maintain + you still get a fair bit of power to handle most cars.
2 good things about the VR6 is the badge (enough street cred) and the sound of the engine.
-
V-RARRRRRRR! not gate crashing but mines in the for sale section!??! they are by far the better car,the engine note is superb and they are fast enuff! mines rapid aswell and i had an impreza before and im happy with what i got in the vr! selling it coz i want to cars, one to work horse and one for a project! not bothered if it dont go tho, still happy with it! :smug:
-
VR6's can be expensive! Prone to head gaskets and warped/cracked heads.
16v's can be tuned easily to aound the same power as a Vr6.
And you guys with VR6's why are you selling them if they are soooooooo fantastic?
-
coz i want a mk1 or 2 vr instead!! and supercharged!!
-
Well from what I've been told you would be well advised NOT to supercharge in any way a Vr6 engine. The heads are too fragile.
-
hmmmm funny that, how come they do a rado g60 then? obviously id have to have all the internals sorted and up rate everything but hey thats miles away at the mo,just fancy a mk1 or 2 with the vr lump!
-
 nevermind thatd be me doh! its just the only engine that i ever see is the vr supercharged,or the g60 or rallye's.............................. im confused,i'll get my coat!
-
ALL the G60's and ralleyes etc are 1.8 or less 4 pots!
As I said forced induction on the V6 is not good. Not seen one myself!
-
theres a thread in nonsense thats got some video footage of a sweet mk2 with a mahoosive supercharger on it,sounds and looks like it goes really well! its under some videos i thought u might like,i think?! have a look and let me know what u think!
-
Yea saw the post unfortunately cant view it here at work!
Well I got no real experience of em just what I've heard, so dont mind me.
-
lenny boy you really must do some reading up on here www.vr6oc.com ........ the vr6 internals are good for around 300 bhp in standard trim, supercharger and turbocharger kits are available as bolt on diy kits and power goes 260 ish upwards.. i dont think people would make these kits if the engines were pants....
-
Now Gaz I'm hardly gonna spend £10 joining a club to find out about an engine I have been advised against now am I?
Peoples opinions I have come to respect over the years have told me its a dodgy engine to put forced induction on!
Thats all I know and that good enough for me!
Now if ya start talking about 260bhp and above you get into that old argument about how much power should a FWD car handle! I mean I can induce torque steer on mine now with around 153 bhp!
-
forum is free to use len.. i aint paid no £10 for a forum and never will.... any kind of torque steer is good in my book... adds to the fun of driving i reckon... would be boring if they all drove sensibly

-
if ya pics are owt to go by gaz the vr lump looks like it holds its own under some serious track abuse so they cant be that bad, fingers crossed and touch wood and all that!! sorry bout the vid len, maybe when u get home u can ave a butchers at it,its a fine piece of german engineering!
-
Yea I'll give it a go later. (had family round last night!)
Its a one off engine as its the narrowest V engine made so peeps have reservations I guess. As far as I know its the only V engine where the head is in one piece instead of two heads. So the forces must be different to any other engine.
Personally I have no opinion, just what more experienced guys than me have said.
I couldnt open anything on that forum Gaz, maybe our system here blocking something!
-
Hi guys I've just broke my vr for parts! I bought mine last year and fcuk me it was good fun but damn expensive on fuel and the original suspension is poor so If you do go for a vr6 make sure you can afford to run it!! noise is great but I agree that out right acceleration you can get the same out of a valver corsa I know I raced against one. Don't forget there are two models the early vr only has 174bhp and the later models have 200bhp and higher torque so would be more fuel efficient and better bang for your buck!! if you want the best of both worlds keep your mk2 and stick a vr engine in that way you get a lighter car and fcuk loads of power!
-
Just to put something right thats appeared on this thread.
The vr6 is a known reliable and strong unit, hence why the vr6 has been used from 1992 and is still in production today, although in a modified format.
-
yeah....... so stick that up your trumpet len!!

-
But as Corin has totally missed the point of this thread then I will ignore his comment!
And Gaz you are using the drool smiley not the tongue one I assume you meant to use! :smug:
My point was that I have been told that the Vr6 engine is no good for forced induction!
-
 here we go again!!! face it the vr lump is a good engine, regardless what anyone says, theres that many with super chargers or turbo's on that they must be good for it! mines no where near as healthy as id like it,but if i could i would defo have a charger slapped on it! i have seen too many going and sounding well so i think the proof is in the pudding! anyway, thought this was valver vs vr,in that arguement the vr wins hands down, standard vs standard!
-
It developed coz Gaz said that only a Vr6 could get up to 300bhp!
-
 i can see gaz's point tho so i think its an agree to disagree situation! no doubt this will go on like the how low can ya car go on 17s thread!!
-
Well of course! I just love to provoke a good debate!
-
gotta be done!
-
Gaz said that only a Vr6 could get up to 300bhp!
where the f00k did i say that old man??? i said the internals of the vr are good for that... i think you goin senile....

-
O.K. i'll give ya that! I didnt go back and read exactly what you said!
-
tut tut tut and you elders should really be setting an example....... of thickness!!!
-
Yea yea go on rub it in! at least I admit when I'm wrong. And I did get the 300 bit right!
-
A supercharger will give the vr 250bhp, a turbo 300bhp. There are loads of kits available, like i said before the vr is a strong lump.
Try these guys.
