i have a problem with my 1995 golf gti the heaters have stopped working just finished work went to de-mist my windows and the f**king thing has stopped working any ideas i havent checked fuse or anything yet to dark at moment plus AINT IN MOOD.any ideas would be great as this is first time this has happened to me no heaters

If it's the fan that's not working you need a heater resistor..they cost about £25 and this is what i replaced when my heater fan stopped working..
-
Normaly when the heater resister is gone the fan only works on the highest speed so it could be the switch itself
-
yeaaah that what i was told..and after replacing the fan motor still nothing...and i gave the resistor from a mates golf a try and she worked like new. Don't know how common this is but worth a try and it saved me stripping the dash
-
cheers guys 4 the help where is the resistor cheers once again
-
first take of the lower glove box/tray and you will see the heater fan housing and to the left the resistor is clipped in to the back of the dash (you can follow the wire from the fan)....this slot's in and simply has two clip's that need squeezing together to remove
-
the H resistor went on mine, as above didnot work all together, note: if you can see the connector(i can as cabs have no glovebox) its worth checking its not melted ( you will probable have smelt an awful smell if it is, especially if you have been a passenger!) mine was so i cut the wires and replaced with an insulated large speaker terminal, works like new now.

do i have to splash out 25 bucks on a stinky little resistor?.
any other ideas how to sort this problem out? i have the same problem, my heater only works at full, i aint so keen to spend money on the car when i really do intend on selling it this time next year(for another mk3)

Mark you could buy one from a scrap yard!!! less reliable but they are all universal. or you could buy a new one now and then swap it when you get your new motor :undecided:
-
25 nicker aint that bad a price for new i was quoted allsorts, paid that in the end though, scrapper is the only other option, i would though before you have a fire on your hands too though! (read above)
