Title: Mk4 Anniversary Wheels....
Post by: wax on 16 December 2006, 13:57
Hey Guys,

I bought i Mk4 Anniversary last night, all the wheels are messed up (guy told me they were oxidising) but he said that was a common fault with em?

How can i get it sorted?

Help would be appreciated

Cheers

It is a very common problem. VW replaced them under warranty, initially with the same thing and then with the same wheel in a more 'normal' finish.

You could get the lot refurbished to whatever look you like for 200 quid.

Or, you could still try and see what VW have to say. I bought a mk4 anni a couple of months back. The guy had it from new with the original polished finish wheels and never knew they could be a warranty swap until I told him. VW then replaced them, with the non-polished ones, even though the car was 4 years old, at a 75% discount. I had to pay around 170 quid. So the choice between that and getting your wheels refurbished isn't really that much.

Cheers :)

Hey

Thanks for the reply. You said 200 quid for the refurbing, would VW do that for me? if not could anyone recommend me somewhere in Manchester (I heard its hard to get that polish look back when refurbishing)

Nice One

No, VW would not do that for you. The refurb places I know are mainly down south. Think there is one near Preston - would have to go and check on that.

Wax,

If you haven't sorted this out yet, put the following into Google:

"alloy wheel refurbish manchester"

It returned a few relevant hits when I tried it :-)

I have a great alloy wheel refurbisher near me, but he's in Carnoustie near Dundee, and I think that's a bit of a trek for you !!

cheers

PS - our Anni rims have gone the same way, 3 times.  They'll be off to Carnoustie to be properly sorted soon.  The trick is to get them lacquered all the way through, not just on the outboard side.  Most refurbers will probably do this as a matter of course but worth checking.
