Title: Golf mk3 gti making thumping noise on acceleration?
Post by: Monkeydub on 15 December 2006, 21:18
My father-in-laws mk3 gti 8v is making a strange thumping noise, it makes it when:

*over 20mph
*only on acceleration

goes away:

* when the clutch is depressed or on deceleration

Checked the wheel bearings and they all seem fine. The noise seems to be coming from the front right when sitting in the drivers seat. The gearbox seems ok, as in it's easy to change gear, no grinding and no jumping out of gears.

Any help appreciated

Maybe an engine/gearbox mount?

Checked the engine mounts and they seem ok. Anything else it could be?

How did you check the mounts? try opening bonnet and putting the handbrake on put it in first and let the clutch out slowly get somebody to watch the engine if the engne looks like it's trying to climb out of the bonnet it will be an engine mount.
