Title: Idle problems .. any ideas?
Post by: Mk2George on 15 December 2006, 20:05
Hi there, just purchased a mk3 and ive a slight problem. She wont tick over unless I adjust the throttle cable to keep some revs up. She will still tick over @ 800 revs, but slacken the throttle cable off and she dies. Is this normal or do I have a major problem? I understand it could be just about anything but im wondering if the letters/numbers  IN 02  mean anything as this flashes up over the mileage when i start her up.

Any help from you guys in the know would be greatly appreciated!

IN02 is the service reminder.... Do a search on here if you want to remove it...Takes about 2 minute's to reset

And regarding it dying that could be the temp sensor (again have a search on here for detail's)..failing that next on my list is the ecu relay.

The flashing IN02 just means it hasnt been reset after a service. There is a thread about that above somewhere.

As for the idling could be several things. Check the breather hoses first for leaks or blockabes.

Cool, ive already had all of the oil breather hoses off, they were clogged with `bitty` oil, twas a mess. Maybe I should clean out the throttle body too and a new air filter might not go amiss

Well if the breather hoses were a mess then deffo change the filter and clean the throttle body.

Yeah im also getting problems when I put my foot down, the car seems very `hesitant` and only kicks in after a loooonnnng think about it. Throttle body/dirty/oil also?

Hi Guys,

Just found this..might be worth a look on yours

Had a problem on my other halfs  96 8V, Revs kept dropping and engine cutting out sometimes after taking your foot of he  go pedal... after lots of reading i replaced ECU relay (no30) car ran better but still problems,

So had another look 30 mins a go and found a massive split in a hose.

Would this be causing the problems?... what does this hose do?...pardon my ignorance

You can see where iv put some tape on it, Any idea what the part is called?

Cheers

Mine was idling like s***e, when I put the foot in the gas it cut out or took a while to respond. Guys on here suggested temp sensor. Garage sorted it and it was temp sensor. Cost nothing to fix.

Thanks for the pic, the hose that you have pointed out on there was totally rotten on mine when I got it and ive changed it. Ran a can of 10k boost through it and changed the air filter at the weekend too. Still have problems with idling so far as if i slacken the throttle cable right off it just stalls. Ive noticed a sensor in the back of the throttle body (other end to the air intake when the filter hose is off) and ive noticed that its green and you can wobble the connector on it so its obviously buggered. Is that the temp sensor? Would my car not idle at all if that was faulty?
