Title: Steering Wheel off center

Hi Folks,
What is the procedure in moving the steering wheel back to the center position???
When i drive in a straight line the steering wheel is sitting at 10 o'clock, which some times is a bit off putting :sad:
Is a matter of removing the steering wheel and and moving it round a few notches on the steering rack spindle??? or do i have to muck about with the track rod ends???
By the way the steering wheel is fitted with an airbag.

take the negative off the battery first then undo the alan keys on both sides of steering wheel and the airbag comes away, dont unplug the airbag just hold it to the side and undo the steering wheel ,job done

Tell me once i have removed the airbag is a big nut which holds the steering wheel in place which i will have to undo with a socket and ratchet???
Do you know the size of the allen key offhand??

The wheel has moved for a reason...has it hiot a curb or pot-hole??

Mine was the same and it was the tracking that was out...might be worth a look at a garage you know...cost me £25 without takeing the wheel off. Just a thought...the wheel position might be a result of a problem with the tracking....fix the wheel by removing it and you have fixed the result...not the cause!

I agree. It seems strange that the wheel is off. Also I think adjusting it by simply taking it off and rotating it will cause the cancel switches on the indicator stalk to be in the wrong place? I could be wrong on that though. Get the wheels looked at - for 25 squids its a good investment to make sure your car goes in a straight line!  :wink:

Tracking......they will set your steering wheel centrally and adjust the track rod's to this setting....

Yes tracking mate if you take it to a garage and they say they will undo the nut on the steering wheel to center it take it some were else because they dont know what they are doing. The wheel needs to be centered and tracking adjusted accordingly.... :smiley:
