Title: MOT Question
Post by: davidhawkins_78 on 16 January 2004, 16:04
Hello peeps - silly question for you  ???

If you have a rear wiper fitted like on the MKII GTI and it's not working - likely to be something they could fail you on for an MOT ??

Also what about reversing lights too ??

Cheers

Depends where you take it. I get mine done at a garage my Dad has known for years and years. They offer a free re-test, and are thorough without being picky. You dont have to have an appointment either :)

dont know about wipers, but with lights im pretty sure the rule goes 'if fitted it must be tested'.

You definately do not have to have the reversing lights working to pass the MOT. There was a thread about this a while back. I'll dig out the DOT reference for you when I can find it. Mine haven't worked on my cabrio for a couple of years.

I had always thought that if you have extra lights fitted to your car then they have to actually work rather than be for show.

Reversing lights are not obligatory lights and are therefore not included in the inspection.........the previous link I posted seems to confirm that. I also verified it with my local MOT station last year as I don't have reversing lights on my cabrio due to having a replacement gearbox that has the MFA type plug on it instead of the switch.
