Hi,
Bit of a newb question. Had trouble starting the car from cold the past few days.
Turns over but wont start. Oil light flashes and battery light on but not flashing.
The car starts eventually and idles badly, when I press the gas the revs drop and the car cut out and battery light comes on briefly.
Can eventually get it started and going and from then its fine. Doesnt cut out and runs great.
Going to have the battery tested tomorrow as thats the only thing I can think of.
Is there anything else it could be if the battery is fine ?

what car/engine is it ;)
Sounds to me like a dodgy ECU temp sensder :)

Sounds very similar to the problem Im having with my gti, have you got to the bottom of the problem yet?
-
No going to garage tomorrow, will reply when its sorted

I must agree with rubjonny and say Temp sensor.....cost's about £12..this control's gauge and ecu and when this goes they give the same problem's as descibed
-
cheers guys, fingers crossed its that

Did the garage get to the bottom of the problem mate?

can someone point me in the direction as to where this sensor is please? Had a look yesterday but could not see it?
-
on an 8v its in the plastic flange on the front of the head, follow the top radiator hose and you'll find it. On a MK3 GTI its a 4 pin jobber, on the 1.8 I think its blue 2 pin one like the MK2 GTI.
On the 16v I think its on the right side of the head?

Perhaps I'm looking with my eyes closed? I'll have another gander when I get home. If anyone has a picture of a 16v mk3 engine bay (showing the sensor) they can post I'd be grateful.
