Title: Mi16/Mk2 Challenge!
Post by: Len on 06 December 2006, 12:14
Just a couple of qualifications!

This is NOT a race! It is a test of cornering speeds!

fair do's my Pug is 1.5 tonnes unladen and with me and petrol will be nearly 2 tonnes!

So on actual lap times the Mk 2 will probably win.

So I'm thinking how can we do this? Maybe both have a passenger with a mobile so they can check cornering speeds???????

Perhaps we should also put a thread for this challenge in the Events section?

Only way to make it fair and safe would be to do it on a track with GPS to verify to speeds Len and if you're Mi16 is standard it should be against a standard Mk2 aswell.

EDIT - Just read the other thread. Sounds like all out warfare! If I've still got mine at the time and I can get the money together I'll come have a chuckle at you Len

My pug has got a K&N filter and a FSE boost valve, plus lowered and stiffened suspension. Plus some hefty MDF sub boxes!

How would GPS measure cornering speed?
Title: Re: Mi16/Mk2 Challenge!
Post by: Daz... on 06 December 2006, 12:28
I said the GPS so you can see how fast you're going. Bit more accurate than looking at a speedo...unless you got some fancy equipment stashed away!

I do know how accurate my speedo is! had it checked at 96.7mph!!!!

It was a hand held from a bridge on M5 on way home from RTTS a few years back.

Thought as much...I wouldn't believe what they say anyway. A lot of them aren't accurate.

Bar stewards! Not sure if they still do that on the M4 West bound. They used to do from a mile away. What was the consequence of that? 3 points and £60.00? I got that 6 years ago for 75 in a 40. It was a dual carriage way though.  :undecided:

i still have a couple of g-tech meters, they can measure the g-force under cornering.

just drive round in a circle and see what  the gforce is when each car loses grip.

Nah got complicated!

I missed the producer date! Thought I had 7 days after the date of the offence, but no its 7 days including! So they took me to Court and I got 4 points and £130 fine. Very hard lesson!
But copper said he was being very lenient coz his first reading was 109mph! But I slowed as soon as I saw him and went below 100!

Was about 5 or 6 years ago now and they dont have patrols on the M5 anymore.

That would work.

Then take the cars on the track and watch the mk2 fly

javelin trackdays are about safety aswell as fun, no timing is allowed , and you are only allowed to overtake powering out of the bends or under power on the straights... so basically you can get close as you dare behind, then nail em out of the bend if you have the power to do so.. if not sit behind and wait till next time...

this is the track it will be on, a cracking tight circuit..... will seperate the men from the boys...

it will be the full circuit also.. more details after xmas and we'll get a load of us on this... will be fun..

Ok then, i think the mk3 16v isn't much slower than the mk2 16v

until you get to a corner...

Where my 405 Mi16 would p!ss all over both of em! :smug:

Backtracking now aren't we Len  :D I'm not over the top racing matey as I have no intention of getting taken home on an AA trailer!!
If it's only a test of cornering speeds then we could just do donuts in a car park!! it's a full range test of the mi16 v mk2 gti 16v, Round a track renowned as been a b!tch.
Title: Re: Mi16/Mk2 Challenge!
Post by: Len on 07 December 2006, 09:59
No Monza I aint! As per quote my original boast was that when ya come to a corner my 405Mi16 would p!ss all over ya!

Now as my car is a lot heavier than your Golf then its unlikely that I will be able to keep up with or race ya. So the only fair way is to compare cornering speeds.

Or we I'd be willing to take lap times if we could work out a weight diferential.

I like the look of that track Gaz!

your right about the 309's, but they weren't realeased over here were they??, i think you'll find the engine also was used in a sh!troen BX 16v and was slightly better mapped, which is what mine came out of....

Them BX 16v's are funny as fook!

Shaped like a pointy door wedge and built as strong as a piece of toilet roll they look cool when they go flying up the road

Still no such car as a 205 Mi16! Plus you cant use the ECU and have to use a bodged Dizzy! So they dont produce the full 160bhp!

My current engine came out of a BX!

Ryton and Longbridge were poles apart!

What about Honda's in Swindon? Rated by Honda as the best made cars in the whole of their operations.
And that lot up in the NE. Toyota?
Rolls Royce in Chicester?
Is Bentley still in Crewe?
Not to mention Aston Martin.

which mk2 and which mi16???coz it cant be fair to the mk2 going against say a 205 or 309 as they would do the golf thru the bends and on acceleration, not even sure if my vr would do an mi16 in one of those 2 cars  as for the 405,maybe against a passat vr6 so they have same size/weight ratio's? oh and if all this has been said,my bad!

I think Monza has confirmed but not sure what stage his Mk 2 is at!
My Mi16 is a fairly standard 1.9 160bhp. But I've never RR'd it so not sure.

fairness doesnt come into it! I opened my mouth and have had to stick by my words!

hmmmm it will be interesting, altho i reckon the 405 would absolutley murder a standard mk2 1.8 8v or 16v! my opinion of course!

oh yeah and you take your cars on at your own risk, optional trackday insurance is available but if red mist takes over and your drive beyond your abillity/cars abillity and/or weather you could be like this poor saxo driver.....

http://youtube.com/watch?v=1fcS0lASPBE

but if your sensible then youll have fun and learn alot, if you think your fast on the road you aint done nowt till youve been on the track

Its Nissan that are built in the North East, Sunderland in fact.
The government gave Nissan money to employ local people to work at their factory in sunderland as there was a high rate of unemployment at the time. Now its regarded as a very respectable factory.

isn't your 405 on coilovers len? so it wouldnt really be a fair test if you put a standard suspension golf versus a car that hasn't.
Title: Re: Mi16/Mk2 Challenge!
Post by: Len on 10 December 2006, 17:01
Not coilovers no.  The rear has torsion bars and they have been turned to lower and I have 40% uprated shocks. The front has lower springs and Spax adjustable shocks.

This has been no secret from the start in fact i may have evn said as much over 2 years ago when I joined here!

Runs on standard Mi16 15" alloys with 195/55 tyres. Firestones I think????
