Hi all,
I've got a '96 8v GTi. This morning when I unlocked the car, the central locking didn't kick in. I've read a few forums on this problem and there are a couple of possibilities.
1. The Padel has broken on the barrel. Although thinking about it, if this has happened I wouldn't be able to get in to the car at all (Which I can)
2. The Central Locking fuse has gone. Excuse my ignorance but where is the fuse box on a mk3 golf ? (It's actually the wife's car)
3. The Central Locking pump has gone. How can I test if it has ?
Thanks,
Richie.

the fuse box is on the right of the steering wheel under the dash. it's a hands and knees job to get too.

Thanks, I found it in the end after a bit of looking, but non of the fuses are for the central locking. Is the pump hard wired to the battery ?
-
the second one in from the right is central locking,Interior lights, digital clock and fag lighter. should be 15amp

Cheers. The interior lights and the clock still work so it's not the fuse.
There are a couple of pumps on ebay, I'll check them out.
Ta, Richie.

Have you felt the pump to see if its working ? Its located in the off side rear boot wall . looks on my diagram like the red/black wire is +12v , brown is earth . The others are just the triggers from the relevant switchs .

Hi adyh,
Just taken the central locking pump off and there was water in the connection  . The pump doesn't do anything.
Haven't tested the power at the moment as I haven't got a tester on me but will try tonight. Is the fuse that Monkeyalan described the only fuse to this thing ?
Thanks,
Richie.

the diagram mentions 2 fuses , A 15amp fuse in what appears to be slot 21 and a 10 amp fuse in what appears to be slot 22 . (no way of checking here at the moment ) pm me your email address and ill send you the diagram .
