Title: Amp power cable Min Length...
Post by: Dub-77 on 06 December 2006, 08:11
Can anyone tell me if a 3.0m (me being tight :grin:/ spent loads on the golf in the past 3 months) length of power cable will work as in go from the battery to the boot via the passenger's side footwells?

Cheers
Darren.

What car is it? 3metres might be a little short for it to be routed up and down, in and out,etc...  a little slack is better than being 10cm too short that you can't position your amp in a nice place.

Just make sure the gauge of wire is more than enough to carry the current required by your amp. Min AWG8 for 20amp, though most use AWG4.

5 metres minimum to be on the safe side.

Thickest cable is best.

If you want to house your amp in the boot then 5 meters it will be. If you streched the cable and it came out of the terminal when driving then your MK2 could end up in ashes! What power is your amp (RMS rating)?

Not bought one as yet just getting ready for the christmas break  :smug:
I was looking at the Vibe monobox 1 and the VIBE CBR12 ACTIVE.  12" SUBWOOFER ENCLSURE ????
Then some Vibe SEK50 components for the frt doors.

Well thats what I was toying with for now what do yo all think???  :undecided:

Vibe are good for subs and amps. Not sure about components.

Excellent power handling, to get the best out of them they need to be amped. If you're running the fronts off the head unit, I'd say Infinity Reference - if amped try the Infinity Kappa. They've both got more clarity than the vibes, and they're worth the extra wedge. Bass isn't something you'll be short of with that amp/sub combination in your boot!
In answer to your question - I agree with others here, stick to 4awg cable and 5m length.

ive had a couple or sets of vibe 2 ways, and the rectangle 6x9's notice i say a couple of sets, dont trust their wattage ratings, the tweeters cant hack it, sound nice, for a while.
