Nice mate - very shiney
-
This is the first NEW car i have had and could not believe myself how shiny it was!! It is not the metallic black and after seeing it, i prefer the gloss or pearl, whichever it is!
-
Got Gti on order in Diamond black.
Have a flat black tdi at the moment and it is a nightmare to keep clean
-
very nice m8 , im jealous hehe , nearest i get to one of those is driving it off a ship when they turn up at the docks , one day ill be able to afford one of em :p id like to know the paint code for the black though as ill repray my mk2 that colour :D
-
I believe it is L041
-
they look amazing when they are brand new, and have about 5 miles on the clock dont they.
i thought DSG's all came with paddle shifts too? :undecided:
-
LOVELY CAR MATE. I love that deep deep gloss look which you cannot get with a Diamond Black car. Saying that I'd still get Diamond Black, but you car looks absolutely gorgeous. Its a bit like Tornado Red, my favourite Mk2 colour. The Mk5 looks the business in red BUT I haven't theguts to order in that colour - never really liked white though.
-
very nice. The R32 looks superb in black. im in love with that gark grey/silver on the gti. Cant remember what its called but i love it.
-
DSG does come with paddles! Look carefully on picture 3, between the steering wheel and the wiper stalk. Not very clear due to the plastic. Ill have some more photos soon. It has the usual functions of an automatic gearbox, sports setting and slide it over to the left and it goes into tiptronic. Either setting can be over run by another - for example, you can be in drive (normal automatic ) and a flick of the paddle will put you onto changing gears by the paddles. It will also change down and put you into 1st once you have stopped if necessary. Marvelous box.
-
looks awewsome to me. Seats look ace but I'm told they're not comfortable on long journeys?
My only criticism is those plastic floor mats. Sheeesh! Are they delivery mats?
-
looks fecking mint
not jealous at all
-
Yeh mats are delivery mats as this was the day i collected it. It came with fitted VW Mats. Steel Grey i believe is the silver grey colour.
Seats are comfortable, although they are very firm when getting in, but they support you very well. I just prefered the look of the recaros and to tilt the seat forward, you have to lift the the black inserts which are situated in the holes in the top of the seat. Neat function.
Draw back of the 3dr, its a twit to get in and out of the back due to the rear seats sitting back quite far, but this does allow for excellent leg room in back without losing the boot!

ah, didnt see them for the plastic around the wheel!
so if you are in tiptronic mode where u are using the paddles, will it change down for you if say u were approaching a juntion and u still had it in 4th if there isnt enough revs?
-
OK, in tiptronic mode, the gearstick is slid to the left. This then is operated by tapping forward to change up and tapping down to change down. The gearstick is spring loaded so it returns to the central position after each selection, just like the touring cars!
In this mode, you can over ride it and use the paddles and vise verser. Example for me the other day was, taking a corner whilst using the paddles, i was in tiptronic mode and i wanted to change down. As the steering wheel was quite a bit to the left, it was too awkward to use the paddle to change down, so i used the gearstick by tapping it down.
You can again be in drive mode (usually automatic in most cars) and over ride this and start using paddles.
Reference the changing down, in Drive it will automatically do this for you. In Tiptronic or paddles where you control the gears, it will stay in the gear you have selected until the very last minute! Say your in 6th, your just about to stop, once the revs have dropped due to the speed, it will start to change down as it senses that you would be in the wrong gear should you accelerate!
The gearbox also remembers your driving style! If you drive nice and slow for a few days, it will upshift nice and early, if you on the other hand cane it, taking the revs higher, it will remember this and upshift later in the drive mode.
Hope this helps, any more questions, feel free. I also believe that the DSG changes gear in 5 milli seconds!!, using two clutches, one for 1,3,5 gears and the other for 2,4,6 and reverse (think i have that the right way round!!)
-
thanks, that cleared it up for me
yea they do use two clutches, well as far as clarkson said anyway.
i need to drive one of these direct shift gearboxes to see what they are like
-
Honestly, i like the manual, only ever had manual, but after using this, hard to go back. Check out htese videos if you not seen them:

Flapper open still possible on the new R32 V ?????
What does this mean???
-
is he not referring to padel shift, i.e flappy paddles :undecided:
-
Just typed this into google and it has a thread on some connector under the car which you can disconnect and it hold a valve open which increases power (i think) Have a look

Flapper open still possible on the new R32 V ?????
What does this mean???
yes. I did mine on delivery day in August (got a 5 dr dsg solid black).
Just reach up behind the valance between the two exhaust pipes and you will find the valve and rubber hose. I just pulled it, and tucked it out of the way. Best done when the exhaust is cold!
Micalee, did you save hugely on cross channel delivery?

you manualy make the valve open, either by using zipties to crimp the hose or pluging the hose.
the story goes that you'll gain a few hpÂÂÂ
but the real reason most do it is for the sound!
-
what difference is there to the sound?
-
It sounds amazing through the first few gears, it is a nice deep growling sound,
its a nice mod to do if you havent yet
-
Sorry to be dumb with this, but any pics on what the valve looks like? Is it like a connector which unplugs?
-
From googling this term - flapper - I think that this feature was only available on the US Mk4 R32 due to sound regulations - think it quietens the exhaust.
-
Bit of info on the exhaust flapper:
