Get your air/petrol mixture sorted at a garage. your car could be running too lean.

perhaps you've got a heavy right foot. hehehe. :D

check the mixture with a colortune and a co tester.

Need more than a heavy foot to use that much fuel. Hows the car running?

Its an 8V
The car is running okish but I have just found out my battery is knackered.
Not sure if that would be a reason for ful probs tho.

My god.......only 50 on a tenner? :o .......me thinks you had probs before you dropped to 28 mate
-
Maybe, but i only drive short journeys
-
IMHO Short journeys = bad economy due to to much stopping and starting and cold engine.
There's a solution for you in Halfords
go in avoid all the car stuff and go to the bike section,
buy a bike, this will really help your fuel economy ;)
Sorry, no better advice.
