Title: Mk3 GTI Front Speakers (Definitive Sizes)
Post by: LammyPie on 28 November 2006, 09:22
Could somebody please clarify the straight swap sizes for front door panel speakers in a Mk3 GTI.

I want to get a set of components and have been told by one person that I want 6" (16cm) and 6.5" (17cm) by another party. I don't want to spend ages fiddling to make them fit I just want to straight swap.

I was in a local Car Audio Shop the other day and to further confuse the issue they were selling a set of JL TR650's that said on the box they were 6.5" or 160mm?

Also can anyone suggest a good set that would add a little more bass as currently, with the standard VW items it sounds like a a rattling piggy bank!!

I am running an Alpine 50w x 4 Head Unit and do intend on fitting a custom sub enclosure in the NS boot space (where the first aid kit sits) in the future but am looking for an immediate improvement up front asap.

Thanks for your help.

I used 17cm in my doors.

If you do a proper conversion 61/2 inches is 165.1mm and 7" is 177.8mm so strictly speaking neither are correct!

virtually any of the aftermarket speakers will give you much more bass than the standard ones. try going to listen to some in say Halfords.
Down to personal taste really.
