How big an input does the outside air temperature have on the ECU?
I'll tell you why I ask.
Before changing my timing belt, the temp gauge worked and the TDI was averaging 55MPG. After changing the timing belt it stopped working, just 3 dashes and the MPG plummeted to an average of 45MPG. The sender unit was disconnected when I removed the bumper so I checked it, still no fix.
Ran with it for a while. I'd not used the car for a few days and the battery is getting weak, went to start it and the voltage dropped so low that the trip computer, MPG etc., all reset.......and low and behold, temperature gauge started working again! MPG now back up to around 54/55MPG average.
I'm suprised that it has made such a difference.

think rich has a TDI 110 :undecided:
interesting findings though; i thought the MAF controlled the mixture and monitored the air temp :undecided: and that the outside air temp gauge was purely for us to know how cold it was outside!!

Me too! So either we've learnt something there or it was a coincidence :undecided:
Maybe when everything reset, something else reset that affected the MPG :undecided:

Yeah mine is the 110. Going very well since changing that boost hose I might add :smiley:

could be a coincidence. Though i notice that when it's cold my average falls quite a bit. I've noticed that during the summer months i was averaging over 50mpg easily but since the end of September thats fallen to 45ish, and that's over the same run to and from work :undecided:
I'm due a service soon so I'm hoping it's just a case of a little bit of TLC will return it to rude health :smiley: Perfomance wise i don't and haven't noticed a difference (put out 140 on the rollers a couple of weeks back :smug:)

i have a 100 pd surely u only get 55 mpg if u drive constant 60-65 or else its impossible at best at a constant 60mph ad get 55 to gallon and that was driving liek a grandad???,
after revo though and 4 people york to london came out at 47 that was driving at 80 though? is that about right?
since i had revo my consumption has slightly gone down they all said it wud be better?

I find that the fuel consumption varies quite a bit, worst 42 best 60 - TDi 130.
Today I had a 30 mile run on A roads averaging around 60 mph with some overtaking. average was 54mpg

i've got a TDI 150 and my current average since filling up is 48 mpg that with about a third of the tank gone.
currently driving between 65 and 80 although had to show a GTi V5 that the dirty pump was the proper choice this morning :drool:

My car does the same run every working night, I start at 8pm and finish in the early hours of the morning. The roads are usually totally clear at that time and the journey is all motorway bar 3 miles each way, 50 mile round trip. I tend to drive between 70 and 75. Averages 55, sometimes drops to 50, usually when its raining for some reason and sometimes hits 60. I use the cruise control A LOT (as the roads are so clear) and did notice an increase in MPG after installing it.
When I was looking at the various TDI's I do remember noting that the 110 was the most economical of all, yes even the PD's, everything, all be it by 1 MPG with some.

I can easily get 50mpg out of mine on a run, just get on the M/Way set cruise at about 75 and you should easily see 50mpg in a 150 or 130
