hi finnaly found a mint mk2 16v two owners from new last owner 10 years and only 74k with full service history to boot need less to say im paying the piper n this one but it seems mint!!!
its standard and ive heard the 16v will pink a little on normal unleaded so can any one recommend a brand or should i only use super unleaded
also are these chain driven (read in another post on this page that someone wanted advice on buying a 16v and someone replied saying there a bit rattly on strat up due to the chain) i thought they were cam belted !!!!! if they are chain driven when do they need maintenance???
-
timing belt & cam chain
chains need changed roughly around the 80k mark as they start to rattle
a 16v doesnt sound nice anyway at idle, its known to sound rattly
run it on Shell Optimax if poss, or Super Unleaded if you cant get optimax
they run on 98 RON petrol
98 is optimax
97 is Super unleaded
95 is normal unleaded
-
how much did it cost you then?
-
nice one mate, get some pics taken and on the gallery asap :)
mk2 16v do not really like normal unleaded, you should only use super unleaded or go for one of those kstar things.

well it may come as a shock but it is mint and there fore i paid for it
?3995 :o but ;D
and will get picks up right away but that will be next week!!!
its a 91 reg three door in black only mod is a eyebrow spoiler.... last owner was middle aged and used it very little as the 74k mileage suggests!!!!
cant wait
-
oh how much does the timing chain and fitted retail at then!?!
-
christ that price is high!
i paid 4500 for my mk3 16v ;)
-
4k!!!!!
jez i paid 1200 for mine with 79k on it, all be it lacking a service history
-
thats a bit high then is it???
i guess the difference in the mileage between 74 and 79 must equate to the diference in price ::) ;D ;)
well there getting few and far between now and people are asking alot for them as there cult status is getting bigger!!! i guess its down to what the car is in the end!
-
5000 miles and ?2800 difference - I hope you arent being serious! Is it concourse condition?
-
Does it have full VAG service history?
-
well concourse condition is very close there are no body imperfections that i can see it has been really well looked after its just the best one ive seen and ive seen alot
and yeah im not being serious about the mileage difference with the price ::)
but if you look at say "golfs galore" in herts they are always selling 120k plus 16v for like ?3600 so im guessing ive got around the right sort of price range as im getting it from a dealer and yes it does include warranty etc!!! and full service!!! etc etc!!!
hows that song goes "i just cat wait for saturday!!!" ;D
-
yeah full VAG service history!!!!
-
Get your cam belt changed asap and get a new tensioner aswell from vw dont buy a cheap belt and tensioner from gsf of eurocar parts they are cheap copys and wont last. :D
-
cambelt has already been done at 56k by VAG ;)
thanks anyways???
-
about cam belts....
How much do VAG charge to change it?
-
prob about 8grand! get a tensioner and newbelt definately especially if it was done 20000 miles ago and hasnt been driven much. you really dont want a seized tensioner/ cambelt snappage!
i got my car from golfs galore! ;D paid 2800 plus gave them my old car! the capri green driver on their site! he made enough profit on that car! :o
-
I have just brought a 16v Mk2 from Golfsgalore
Black with BBS alloys 123k full service history nice tidy car.
What do you reckon to the guy ?
-

I would re think it mate, I paid 995 quid for my 89 16v with full VW service history and 70,000 on it. The only mods done to it was the exhaust. Other than that it is like brand new. Here is a link to my pics.

There are deals out there just have to look for them hard. I was looking for 6 months straight before finding mine. :)
-

-
well i guess saturday will be the day afterall the guy is holding it for me to see with a fully refundable deposit if it aint what the advert say's!!!
under a grand sounds like the deal of the century 8916vgti!!! to find one for like that is a bit like a needle in a hay stack!!!

My Mk2 16v that I bought just before Christmas cost me ?700 but it does have 150k on the clock. But even though it has the high mileage, it's a pretty mint motor, virtually no rust and runs superb.
See......

I'm quite fond of it already. And since it'll be my daily driver, I can see it getting closer to the 200k mark. ;)
-
my mk2 16v cost me ?850 with 112k allbeit with a poorly gearbox that cost me ?220 in parts for a full rebuild.for prices above 3k I`d want less than 50k on the clock, and would want to see the car on a ramp and all the bodykit removed to make sure it was a minter behind the kit as it is behind here where age will be catching up with mk2`s
-
I'd agree that the price is high but a low mileage late '90 spec 16V with full VAG is quite a find :o
-
well its at a garage so i plan to have a good look ill definately be looking at the underside as well as the arches behind the body kit!!!
