i am thinking of getting a Golf V5 in a few months.  Does anybody own one of these? what are they like? i have driven a 20v T GTI and i like the speed and drive of that, is the v5 any better?

When I had my last 150bhp 1.8t I borrowed a mates 150 V5 for the night. I has a nice engine roar, very V6-ish but performance was less sharp than the 1.8t, is just felt 'flatter'.

Its more of a cruiser than a racer, but bog standard ones often have more equipment than bog standard 1.8t's

The 170bhp version will probably have a bit more bite, depends if you really want  a V5 or would modify a 1.8t and get yourself 210bhp instead!

think weve had this kind of debate before!!!! drive a v5 and a 1.8t then decide as franko's said the both have different characteristics so they will feel different pick the one that suits your driving style best!!! ;D
