Title: Steering Problems!
Post by: Camboose on 23 November 2006, 11:50
I have a N reg 16v. The car has started behaving strangly in the wet. When I go round a sharp right hand corner the steering gets very very heavy as if it has locked, once on the straight again the steering feels fine. It only happens in the wet. Anyone any ideas? Cheers

i don't know why it would only happen in one direction but could the belt be a bit loose and the wetness makes it worse?  :undecided:

Its the drive belt to the power steering pump!
I had this problem and I tightened it twice, but in the end I had to replace the belt.
Cured. :smug:

I had to in the end so ya might as well. mine only lasted for a few weeks until it needed tightening again, so when it happened a 3rd time I changed the belt. But was only about 3 months from the first occurrence!

the pas belts are so cheap to repace anyway, you'd be better off just replacing it first rather than tightenting it! hopw it works
