Title: Oil Change?
Post by: Maka on 21 November 2006, 12:58
Alright everyone,

I'm due an oil change and I'm going to get it done tomorrow, I've only just got the car its a 52 GT TDi PD130, with 66k.

VW do a 'special oil' known as PD Oil, this costs £50 inc vat, is this the oil to use, or can I use normal semi sinth oil?

a bit confused, thanks

Definetly go for the one the manual recommends ie if yours is 505.01 make sure you get that one. I think it is slightly cheaper for the Quantum stuff at GSF part stores.

As said above, its important to use oil to 505.01 spec if you are on standard service intervals. I got the Quantum PD oil from the VW dealer for £37 including vat.

If your car is on longlife servicing, its a different spec again (can't remember the code off hand) but your dealer will know.

I came acroos this problem when I had an oil change (same care as OP).I put the recommended oil in as per users manual 505.01 but ever since the oil change it rattles like a bastard on start up and is really noisy/lumpy for a good half an hour. The brand of oil was Castrol Edge 5-40 and wondered because the car is an import I should have gone for the thicker grade of oil

I went to the dealers and bough the PD oil and a sump plug as this is supposed to be changed as with the oil, I paid £35 inc vat for both items.

My car is on the ‘timed’ service interval.

Since the service yesterday, I can more than feel the difference, the turbo in lower gears doesnÂ’t feel like it did before, it really pulls and my mpg around town has increased to around 40mpg~

Thanks guys for all the advice, hope others find this post useful in the future.
