I fitted a new rubber connector(some kinda of bung) to day to the isv the one thats on the bottom of the isv well after i changed it my car wont idle when cold it wont even start i have to use the accelerator pedal to help it start when its hot its fine what could have cause it to do this. I did give the isv a little blow out cause it was so dirty i have soaked it before and well i dont know am i going to have to soak it again ? or is there anything else i cant check. The car was ok on friday but as soon as i try and put something right it goes tits up

just had a spark in the back of my mind do i have to reset the ecu ? disconnect the battery for 5 mins or some thing ?
-
what car is it ;)

mk3 16v 2.L abf p reg(97)

sounds to me like you have an air leak somewhere, or something has come adrift...
-
Yea check all the breather hoses!

mmmmmmmm dont see why tho it was fine the day before. But if it has an air leak why would it run fine when its warm ? Would it not give me problems all the time ? so like if i go to start it now cause i havent driven it today i would have to keep it revving for about two mins then it will be fine ?
-
because an air leak will lean out your mixture, and when cold the engine needs to run richer than usual to run properly. Once the engine has warmed up a bit, the lambda probe is activated and it can compensate for the lean mixture condition.
I think. Maybe.
Edit: At the end of the day it happened after you were fiddling, so maybe something got knocked ;)

Just been looking today and i cant see any signs of an air leak anything else i can try it sounds like when i start the can its getting no fuel it start and dies with in seconds revs really low like your just about to stall then it will die im stuck now ?
Stupid question but how would i know if my fuel pump was on the way out ? Before i had this starting problem there was a funny buzzing sound coming from the back of the car also like where the fuel filter is . I guess the fuel pump is in this area right

Would anyone be able to tell me where i may locate the automatic choke in this model golf ? just alot of people seem to think it could be causing the problem when its cold
-
there isn't one really, the only thing i can suggest is you swap the ecu temp sender with a new one from VW :)
-
if i ran my car on the fault code reader would it pick this up i have it booked in next week ?
-
it should do, ideally you want the codes cleared then run the car to see what new ones pop up.
-
where can i find this blue temp sensor and is it easy enough to get to any info thanks guys i think i might get a new one in the morning and try and fit.

Hi, my mate has an m reg 2.0 8v ,doing exaclty the same thing , altho his oil pressure swich is p155ing out oil also ! ? , the car will sometimes start ok and 5 mins later will start and stall after 1-2 secs , if you floor the throttle it will idle and run ok until you switch off never lets him down when its running , did you manage to suss out this problem , if so what was it , regards rob (ps great site by the way)

16v ecu sensor isnt blue, I think its white? Sat on the right side of the block IIRC. Shouldnt cost alot from VW :)
