hi can ne 1 help me i want to fit a set of vdo guages in my mk1 golf gti but i dont no how to do it ive read a few posts on how to fit them to a mk2 golf but the problem is in the pictures and the writing ive seen they all show the oil pressure sender conented to the mk2 oil cooler that goes above the oil filter but i have the mk1 oil cooler that goes up the side of the radiator so were does the oil pressure sender go and wot other senders will i need thanx ian

the senders all go in the same place on the MK1, the filter housing looks a bit different to the MK2 because of the oil cooler,m but the oil temp/pressure sensors are still in the same place :)

hi, are they the same senders as the mk2 and could u tell me wot else i would need thanx ian

You need senders to match the gauges, the temp gauge can be 0-150 or 0-180, so you need the temp sender to match, and the oil pressure can be 0-5 or 0-10 bar, again you need the VDO dual pole sender to match. Once you have that, you need to decide if you want both the MFA oil temp and the VDO, or just the VDO. Reason is you need to fit an extra sensor in for it, you cant run them both off the same sender. If you want both you need to get a t-piece adaptor, so you can screw 2 sensors into the same hole. If you don't care about the MFA, then you can just take out the mfa sender and screw in the vdo sensor (The mfa sensor isn't suitable for vdo gauges, as its only rated 0-120)
Then you need to fit the pressure sensor. The dual pole sensor is designed to replace one of the existing pressure warning sensor, and provide both the low pressure warning and the feed for the gauge. There are 2 types of these too, 0.3 or 1.8 bar. If its the 1.8 bar type it replaces the white high pressure warning switch with a yellow wire, of its 0.3 then it replaces the black or brown low pressure switch with the blue wire.
Hope all that makes sence :)
