I have lowered my car by 40mm and it has begun to make funny noises. My car is a mk3 2.0 gti 16v. It sounds as if it is the exhaust rubbing on something. It only makes the noise when either the car is accelerating and is made worse by having a heavily laden car. A mechanic friend thought it was the exhaust rubbing on something that was too close. Standard exhaust. Any help would be really appreciated!!

hi
its possible that it is catching on the rear axle, the exhaust goes over the top of the axle and is very close when lowered.

Is there anything that I can do to stop this? Thanks for the help.

Get new rubbers, or put jubilee clips round the old ones :)

Yea mine was rubbing and I fitted new rubber mounts and fine now!
Try some chassis ties first, bit easier to fix rather than jubille clips!

What are chassis ties? Where do you think I can get them from and how do you fit them? How much do new rubber mounts cost and are they easy to fit. Thanks for the help. It's always worrying when your car makes funny noises.

chassis ties/cable ties call em what ya like! Halfords do a selection of sizes.
And if ya cant find one long enough fit one into another leaving opposing ends to fit together.
